Interesting idea. They'd be a waste without a crazy big brake kit.

Now all we need is for someone to bring back colored tires (like the bright blue Metzlers I used to have on one of my cars). :D

Two-inch thick polycarbonate wheels? You think it's a two inch hunk of pc in there? That would weigh a ton . Heat from the brakes could cause all kind of problems: discoloration , stress failure . All that for only $2000 each?
SEMA is more about what looks good than what works. ( Just my opinion)

Default clear wheels

I must admit that a set of clear wheels could look good on a show car. But would be impractical for the daily driver. And I do remember looking at a site a couple of years ago of a guy here in the states that was making colored tires. He had a set of pale blue ones on his Ford pickup.

Yeah, Kumho makes some with a yellow or red stripe down the middle of the tread, and there are some motorcycle tires that are made in colors, but the old Metzler Blue Cold Weather Tires aren't made any more.

Those clear plastic wheels would be a major pain to keep clean on a 'daily driver' vehicle - the insides would constantly need to be cleaned, and that would be a real chore.

So, that, along with the heat and flex problems, pretty much means 'show only' for plastic wheels.

i have heard from a certain inventor of a clear wheel that it's streetable... but blah... he's trying to release them to public in the next few years or so..

who knows.... we might see these on the streets eventually.

i still am more interested in the crazy tires that burnout colored smoke than the tires that are colored themselves.

and then you can't forget the crazy tires that use no air (tweels!!) .... alot of military and industrial type vehicles use them already.. but this is just cool..

^^^ Combine the clear wheels with a tweel tread and people would be so confused as to what happened to your wheels

I think the 'tweels' are cooler than clear plastic wheels, but that's just me. You might be able to avoid brake dust issues with a complete ceramic setup, ie: ceramic rotors and pads. I think caramic brakes are supposed to be dustless, but I could be wrong.

Naw, the ceramics put out dust as they wear, they have to, it's just not a dark color...
