Default i need opinions on this stock size tire.. kumho ecsta ASX

i got a flat today so i'm running on a donut.. dont have time to order from tirerack, etc. but a local tire place will price match whatever price i find online.

sooo.. the only tire they have in stock which is 205/50/15 is the kumho ecsta ASX's.. anyone have any experience with these?

also, am i making a good choice going with 205/50 compared to the 185/60 stockers?

will they have a problem mounting 205's on the stock steelies?

thanks guys, and i did search but i just want more updated suggestions

Need more precise info bro. You buying only 1 tire or a whole set? Why would you pick 205/50's? They will not fit or look right on a 6 inch steelie. Try using the ASX Kuhmo tire but in a 195/60/15. The best price I found for it right now is 46 bucks each at www.tires-easy.com

205/55/15 would very close diameter to the stock 185/60/15's, and I know you can get the ASXs in that size.

I used to have them on my Subaru (in 205/55/16 on the stock 16x6.5" alloys), and I was pretty happy with them. A friend of mine recently got a set for his girl's Mazda3 at my recommendation, and also likes them.

The ASXs are a great tire for the price-- quiet, decent wet and snow traction, and inexpensive-but-not-cheap. I'm debating getting a set myself next month, in fact.

working out pretty well. no rubbing issues, slightly lower profile than stock. They feel nice too.

as far as stock diameter.. yes you are right, 205/55 would be very close to 185/60

the reason i chose 205/50 is because it is very close in diameter to 195/55. And i've read on these forums, that 195/55 is what the xB was meant to have and is the most accurate for the speedo. so, i pretty much disregarded the stock 185/60 size.

i forgot to test out the speedo compared to my gps, but i will later on today and post the results.

Your speedo should be about 6% slower now. Plus the overall tire height is 1.3" shorter than the 185/60.
Not sure who's tell who what but, our speedo is calibrated for 185/65R15s so all these tires suggested are way too short.
To make the speedo correct and for the best ride you really needed 195/60R15s.

in the same post you just said the speedo is calibrated for 185/65 but to make it correct you need 195/60's. so which is it? lol..

Take your pick, they are within .2" of each other. I'm going with 195/60 which is wider and taller than the 185/60. Plus it's closer in height to the bBs stock tire size of 185/65. Sorry for the confusion. You could use either one and still have a more accurite speedo.

I'm about to order a set of Kumho Ecsta ASX's in 195/60/15 from tire rack right now. They're $48 each, and around $40 to ship to me.

i overpaid a little because i really needed tires and had to buy them from a local tire place. They price matched tirerack.com's price but they included what it would cost to ship them which sucked. and they overcharged me for mounting and balancing (20 per corner).

oh well, sometimes you gotta bite the bullet when you're desperate. I can't be running on a donut for too long.

just an update.. the car feels great with 205 tires on the stock steelies. Feels much more planted to the ground at highway speeds and going around bends. big improvement in my opinion.

and the look from the rear is good. the wider tire gives it a nice stance.. doesn't look like it's rolling on rubber bands with the stock 185's.
