just got new shoes for the xB...straight from the old skool
before i owned my xB, I have been strictly a VW owner, having gone through everything from a '00 golf to an '81 baby blue rabbit diesel, with 12 others in between in the last 4 years. i've been brainstorming on how to merge the relatively clean, boxy lines of the xB with the modding style generally used on my favorite VW's, '85-92 golf/jetta (called mk2's by VW people).
i've come up with several ideas, but only a couple nights ago did i obtain the first step towards coming up with a look that i hope is going to be a bit unique on these forums and on xB's in general.
there's a pretty good story behind the acquisition of these wheels, but i don't feel like typing it in right now...
regardless, i will probably run these wheels in their current condition until this summer sometime when i purchase new lips from kodiak motorsports to make them 15x8.5 (up from 15x7 ET38 stock) w/ a polished lip. buying a set of 205/55 15's to put on them shortly, and will be purchasing and installing an H&R cup kit before these go on the car.
anyway, here they are:
BBS RS 047 3-piece forged wheels. 15 pounds a wheel, true 3 piece. all barrels in perfect shape, lips a little rough but being a 3-piece, they're replaceable and easily obtainable. in their current form, 15x7 ET38 4x100.
some of you will hate the style, but it's not you that i'm doing this for. will update with pics as the car progresses, but i'm on a tight budget so it's going to be step by step for a while.
for those of you who don't know, these wheels are extremely rare in the united states, and most people who have them will not sell them. when a set can be found, prices upwards of $1000 for a set of wheels even w/ rough lips is common. they listed for $900 a wheel from BBS when new.
an example of what they will look like with new lips and titanium bolts:

I can't believe I never thought about putting some old vdub BBS wheels on an xB.
There are so many styles available, and they're for sale on the 'tex all the time.
Props for originality. Can't wait to see 'em mounted.

it's hard to price a set of BBS RS's, as they are quite rare and can bring varied money depending on what's available at the time and who's looking. this particular set i got for $265 + a good condition set of 15x6.5 BBS RA2 (1 piece cast aluminum). lips list for $137 each from kodiak, and i'm not sure where or how much the 120 bolts for the 4 wheels would cost. i will also probably bead-blast and re-powdercoat the barrels of the wheels when i have them apart, in silver.
all told, with everything done, i could probably get $2000 for the wheels when they are reconditioned properly, after putting perhaps $750 into the set in parts and powdercoat. i don't plan on selling them. ever.

Love the style of the wheel! I think the centercap would look better if it were flush, but that's just me.
I dont' like the "wheel is too wide for the tire" look. I think that's a big and an awesome way to scrape the hell out of the wheel's lip.
Just get wider tires than those shown and you'll be golden!
