I was reading a thread earlier were the person painted his rims bronze with wheel spray paint. I just want to know if this is a safe thing to do with silver rims as I want to paint mine black but dont want to buy new rims sinbce I like these. If someone could point me to some detailed instructions or descriptions on how do do this I would be very pleased. I'm looking to paint my silver ALT Racing rims 18's

I don't see how this would be a problem as long as you prep your wheels and use good materials. I would wet sand the clearcoat on the wheels before applying any paint or primer. This would help give a good bond to the underlying paint.

Perhaps this would do better in Tread and Butter.

Yes you can paint your wheels. Over all, it normaly looks better if you powder coat them instead. If you do use spray paint, get the good stuff & take your time when painting them.

Default powder coating

If painting your wheels and interested in powder coating, or learning more about what powder coating entails, let me know. I have a powder coating shop and could quote you prices, if interested. Powder coating will cost more than painting the wheels yourself, but you'll get a much more uniform look to the painted surface and the paint will be much more durable if powder coating...really depends on what you're going for, a quick appearance change or wheels that will last as long as the Scion hopefully will...you can reach me here or at mpc_llc@yahoo.com.

I recoment that if you are going to do it, do it right. Take the tires off the rims, get the rims sand blasted, have the rims porosity treated (This is a process where they high presure force LocTite into the metal to fill any leaks and YES Alluminum rims do leak!), then have the finish you want applied. Whatever you choose, either Anodise (sp) or powder coat, you will need to line up all the shops to do the work ahead of time because these processes need to be done one right after another and once you get the rims media blasted they will begin to oxydize so it all has to get done Quickly. Don't skip any of the steps and when you get the prices to do it this way remember that Quality is remembered long after Price is forgoten. Do not skip the porosity treatment this step is a must, and has to be done by a profesional. The last thing you need is to be putting air in your tires every three days because you skiped this step trust me on this!
