Default For people who know about tires!

I was just wondering, in your opinions what are the best tires to put on the tC as far as handling in dry/humid conditions, and rain go? I live in Florida, and it's either really hot, and really humid, or dry at times. My tC is sitting on the stock potenzas right now, and I really have no complaints except that when I corner a little too sharply, they do screech a bit. I don't, however, drive my car like a maniac by any means. They seem to handle nicely in the rain. It's a decent tire, but it's not the best. I'm not asking for the TOP of the line, but I am looking for pretty damn close. Also, how much will they be? At tirerack.com the potenzas are $160.00, that's pretty damn expensive. Everywhere else they're like $200.00???? I would like to stay below $150.00, but I guess beggars can't be choosers

BTW, If you all didn't catch it up top, I have the stock 17's. Just so you guys know what I'm working with here....

Check out the Hankook R-S2 tires, very good price, superb tires, 200 wear rating so pretty soft, quieter than the crap RE92 stock tires, a ton more grip in dry and rain. A couple of national class autocrossers have been winning events on them

We have them on our autocross/sometime drag race/track day/audio comp car for our daily drivers and rain race tires. We will have full out gooey slicks on our other set of Enkie RPF1's, I would not have these tires if not one of the very best no matter the cost;)

For the money I think Toyo makes some excellent tires and you can get them in many sizes. From there I'd check out BF goodrich (KDWs), Nitto (Neo Gen), and Yokohama (Parada's are great for dry, but STAAANK in the rain)

I have used many brands of tires over the years and this is the first set of Hankooks I have ever even considered. I can't find the link at the moment but they nearly took top honors(just out of first place) in a German tire test recently for dry and wet conditions. I have pulled out of some 50MPH turns at 100MPH on them and they were stuck like glue, still not at their limits and that is just faster than I care to go normally on public roads.

I had a set of the Parada's for a short time and they were really decent, did not get to test them in the rain though.

The Neo Gen looks really nice but that is all I know about that tire, ,lol.

The Kumho MX is a really fine tire, one of the best in the dry, smooth, fairly quiet, no real rain experience with them though.

I ran Kumho Ecsta V700s on my turbo Matrix for autocross and drove to all events on them, they were really sweet and suprisingly good in lite rain.

BFG makes some great tires, just so darn costly!

I have ran several sets of Toyo's, always like them, a bit costly as well.

In todays market place you can get some dang fine tires for very resonable prices, makes it hard to spend the big bucks for neglible improvement and in some cases none;)

I agree with Raam, bang for the buck summer tire, i'd go with the Hankook Ventus RS2 z212. It's probably going to be my next tire. I've heard it's on par w/ the much more expensive Falken Azenis RT-615.

The Kumoho MX is a good tire and proven, but it's been out forever and i've heard that the (newer) Hankook outperforms it.

If you're looking for a more all-season tire for the rain, i'd probably go Toyo Proxes4.

KDWs are too expensive.

Shop for the Hankooks or Toyos here, much better pricing.

Another great all season(more biased toward dry and rain), very smooth and handles nicely, huge improvement over the stock tires and even quieter than the Hankook, is the Kumho ASX.

I put them on my stock wheels just a few days after buying our tC because I could not stand the crappy 92's any longer.

I did this even though I knew I was only going to use them a few months at the most, just had to upgrade the tires to the level of the car, major improvement in everything!

Don't get me wrong I like Hankook, I'm running them now.

I only suggested the otheres because of their durability. Personally I think a treadwear rating of 200 isn't too hot. The Parada's and Toyo's are pushing around 300 and more...

And I didn't suggest the Kumhos for the same reason, those tires are one of the best performers but definately wear out fast.

I completely agree Sorry if I sounded like I was arguing with you or any such thing, just pointing out some other options and how much I have liked some tires.

Only a few simple things bug me about the tC.

One is the crappy stock tires, why does it come with them???

Another is the high road noise levels when most of the car is sound deadened quite well, especially at this price point??(the main culprit is the side panels by the back seats and on towards the rear of the car, pull off the trim and deaden well, us some accoustical absorber as well and viola, far queiter!!

Anyway, there are many tires that are better than the stock ones, even the stock yokos are much better than those that came with the 92's.

i have the hankook rs-2. they perform better than the RE92's in wet tractiong, dry traction, cornering and they are cheaper than the RE92's. the only downside to these tires is that they are louder than the RE92's and they are wearing out a bit faster than the RE92s, but that is expected from high performance tires. i think these are pretty good tires for the money.

I agree with everything you just said but loudness, really odd since much quiter on our car, hmmmm, we have wide ones maybe a bit of difference in the tread design resulted in less noise?

i drove over 19K miles with the RE92's and when i switched wheels/tires, i noticed the RS2's are a bit louder. it isn't a huge difference, but it is louder(to me at least)

my tire size is 225/45/17 and yours were 235/45/17 correct?

it was wierd to me that yours is quiet and mines isn't... im jealous...

Why hasn't anyone talked about the Pzero Nero M+S? Whats the opinion on those? The ones that I believe come stock on the 18's. I had planned to put them on my new rims when they get here, should I reconsider?

Because the Toyo Proxes4 probably performs just as good or better for about $20-30 less per tire. The Toyo TW is 300, the M+S is 400, but these ratings really differ between manufactures, so it's hard to compare.

My thinking is, get a summer tire and just be cautious in the wet stuff instead of settling for an all-season tires that isn't exceptionally good in any conditions.

I bought Kunho ASX for the stock wheels for winter tires, will see some snow on occasion.

I have 2350/40/17 R-S2 Hankooks for summer street and rain tires for autocross and road course on 17x8 Enkie RPF1's.

Next will be a second set of RPF1's for Slicks for dry autocross and track days.

But, our plans for the car have shifted in much higher gear now, we will only drive it to events, which will be alot, and not as a daily driver so unlikely to see any snow. I traded the stock wheels to my buddy for his stock ones with Yokos on them since he needed better tires. I got a great deal on the ASX tires so just charged him what it cost me.

They are a very high performance all season tire, very smooth and quiet, dang good in the rain as I had the chance to test them a bit, and can handle mild snow just fine. I highly recommend this tire to anyone needing the attributes if offers, really quite a nice tire and very good price point.

Normally I do alot more research on a tire before buying it but my very good buddy runs an exceptionally busy Discount Tire store, sells many thousands of tires a month, he highly recommended them to me and as usuall, he was right on the money.

When it comes to supper performance tires I sometimes help him with advice;)

The reason I ask is becuz the Nero M+S has some really good ratings. Check out this review and test on Tire Rack when it is up against the ASX.

Great review on the Kumho versuss the P Zero Nero

I rarely overlook such things but then again I cannot tell you the great deal I got on the Kumhos, really really great;)

They were just going to be a seldom used tire where ultimate performance was not an issue, just far better than the stock terrible tires.

Nice to have sponsores that pay a great deal of my race and show wheels and tires costs. Not free by any means, I rarely accept free things as nothing is realy free;) This is why I can afford three sets of wheels and tires for our project tC, summer, 3 season wet autox, track days, daily drivers, full slicks for dry racing, winter set which I may never use.

As for size of the R-S2, which are a far better 3 seaason tire than any all season, depends on your wheels, if stock wheels then get stock size, it is the best.

I do not recommend putting wider tires on stock width wheels, may look cooler to some but usually hurt more than help handling do to improper side wall support.
