Default Please help?!!!! Stretching tires...Now with one done!

So I bought the Sportmax wheels that are 17X9 in the rear and I am trying to fit a 225 40 17 but they will not bead up. Granted I was on an old machine. Should these fit or am I SOL? Also is there a technique to stretching tires? Thanks.

Go to another tire shop, one that has a pressurized bead seater tool (basically an air tank, manual valve, and wide nozzle).

You could also try a ratcheting tie-down strap wrapped around the tire.

Thanks Ed, so I don't need to buy new tires (again)? This will help me sleep a lot better tonight. I did try the tie down strap, but I was afraid I was going to punch a hole in the tire if I went too tight. Thanks again. I will take them to the shop tomorrow and let a pro do it. Thanks again.

go on you tube. there is a video of a guy getting the beads to seal with brakleen and fire......my friends actually do this alot, so i am not saying this is a experimental method, it's pretty old school.

Nope, not compressed air anyway. I've seen this done to mount a tire on 4x4 in the feild. Basically you cause a small explosion inside the tire. Which causes the air to expand and bead the tire.

When I tried to air them up nothing went, air just leaked out from between the tire and rim.

Anything flammable should work. Stay at a distance and move quickly. I've singed my arm hair more than once.

WoW, We install 225/35-18s on sportmax 18x9.5" with out any issue but I guess, your next try is that, and yep it will do it for both side, but make sure you have the Air ready and air it up as soon as you can !!

I was going to mention the "explosive" method, but I don't want someone getting hurt because of some bad advice I gave.
We've done it at my job, last time someone attempted it he got a ball of flame to the face. Luckily he hurt his pride more than anything, just singed eyebrows, lashes, and bit of his hair.

And I just noticed, you might want to change the topic title. Stretched wheels? LOL

When I put the tire on and added air the tire did not move, maybe you guys have more pressure? Like I said at the top I was on an old machine. Does the fluid still burn inside without adding air quickley?

Also try inflating with an air chuck connected to a shop hose, not the chuck/hose connected to the tire mchine. Remove the tire valve core too.
