The parts guy at my local dealership polished some domed fence post caps (like the ones you see on chain link fences) and tapped hole near the base and secured it to the lip in the center of the wheel with a set screw. It looks really sharp with his whitewalls, trim ring and spline drive lugs.

Yep! You got it. I don't remember how many set screws he used but I do remember that he wrapped the lip in the center of the wheel with masking tape to give the set screws something to grip. I'll try to get a hold of him today.

Secured!!

I got a bunch of set screw(allen head) at home, and got a drill/tapper combo for $5.

My steelies got so many scratch from the moon caps, so I strip it and painted it silver.

I couldn't get a hold of him...but it looks like you got it figured out. I like it! Are you going to change out the lugs?

I have spline acorn nuts from my 17's, but it looks too small compare to the stock nuts. don't want to use it.
I also have oem toyota chrome lug nuts, but only 8(can't find the other 8 ), I check some stores, they don't carry the same one. I'm too cheap to get a different new set of chrome nuts($1.09 ea), i'll just wait til I find a bargain somewhere.

go to Home depot. 048856870101 post cap, that is what it say on the invoice. the size is 2 3/8". you can find them on the section where they put metal pipes for fence/ post building. its 99cents each.

get a matching drill bit, tap bit and screw you want. in my case, I have a quarter of an inch size -32 thread per inch allen screw available at home, so I just bought the Irwin #29 drill bit with 8-32NC tap combo(p/n 80217) for $5, then drill close to the edge of the cap, tap it, mask tape(3 times) the center bore of the rim, then put the cap then thighten the screw.

Sid, that's the least expensive good looking mod I've seen on a box!

Congrats!

(Final touch would be the old domed chromed lug nuts to match the 'custom hubs.' :D )

sweet!!! thank you sir!

a few last questions if you don't mind!

1) how many set screws did you end up using?
2) is the masking tape just there for grip or something?

just 1 set screw per cap. 3 would be nice and may center more but, I got lazy. might do it next time. mask tape is to make the cap more center and fit tightly, then the screw is for more security, thats what i think. I'm actually thinking of notching the centerbore with dremel, so the screw will sit there, but will do it if I loose a cap.
