Default What is the widest tire that will fit

Ok i want to try to squeeze a 225/40/16, or 225/45/16 on a xb, lowered with coilovers, i have seen 225/40/18, and 225/35/18 on xb's, so I belive this is possable, does any body know what fits and what off set wheel ( 16x7.5 or 16x8 ) I will need. I understand that rolling the fenders is going to be a possibility, flares maybe , but the stretched look, with wheels sticking out of the fenders is not for me.

Thanks for any help

225 is unneeded. it will slow you down with all of it's rolling resistance.

Rolling restince of a 225 is going to be off set by the added grip. sure if I was going to add somthing like an 17, 18 or 19 inch rim then the unsprung weight would really put a dent in the performance, but i am not going for stellar fuel milage , or looks presay. A good light weight wheel with a wide tire that is inflated correctly, will not increse restance to the point of radicly reduced driveabilty , but if it is some " looks only " wheel , that weighs 20 lbs then the starting restince and unsprung weight will not add any performance at all.

Regardless of what I just said, some body out there must have tried somthing bigger than 225's , and if not, what offset did you use to stuff 225's into youe wheel wells??. any help would be great.
