Default wheel locks

what kind of wheel locks do you guys have for your rims? Im trying to find one of the most theft proof sets as possible without breaking the bank. Can you all tell me what brand you guys use and possibly include a link to where you bought them from and include the price of them?

thanks in advance.....

I cant think of the brand. Got them at a Auto Zone styled place for $25. It was a full set of 30 lugs + 4 locks & key. Its a whole different style lug, where the key slides into the lug, not around it. So I find that it would be a little harder then just taking a grator grip to take it off

tru, I will have to look at an AutoZone tomorrow. Do you know anything about McGard wheel locks? I have been seeing those around a little, but they dont seem like they could be that great. let me know your opinion on those.

So here's my question with locks. What's to stop someone from getting the same lock that you have? Is there a good chance of someone getting the same one you got? And Chucksu, when you remember the brand, can you please post it? I like the idea of the locks you're describing.

McGard or Gorilla make good wheel locks.
With Gorillas you get a key ID # (depending on which model lock), so you can order a replacement in case you lose the original.
I got my Gorillas off ebay.

wheel locks are totally pointless and easily defeated with tools and time

best bet is to etch your drivers license # on the inside of the wheel-this is all the police have to go on as far as ownership
it is your word against the theives in most cases
and I have seen many cars with wheel locks get the wheels destroyed because they could not steal them (or damaged trying)
and unless your insurance covers your aftermarket wheels (do not assume they will, they normally want pictures and receipts) you are boned and out of pocket for wheel replacement/repair

They are a deterrant, like any other theft protection device.... If they want them, they will get them... Car alarms, lojack, anything from that genre.

I do whatever I can to deter as much as possible. The chances that your rims are going to get stolen without locks on them is incredibly higher than that if your rims have locks... cause most theifs are opportunists and don't want to spend the time neccesary to get wheels off that have good locks.

I have Gorilla locks as well and they are VERY great, individual "Combinations" and not easily overridden. You can't just buy gorilla brand locks and the key will work with all of their locks... the have MANY different combinations...

Do get some as soon as possible if you have aftermarket rims, as you'll hit yourself if they get stolen cause you don't.

That's like saying "I'm not going to put an alarm on my car or lock it up because door locks and alarms apointless and easily defeatable." Heck, you might as well jjust levae the keys in the ignition while you are at it since ignition locks are the same.

By putting a set of good wheel locks on you will at least prevent the majority of thieves from taking your wheels. You notice I said the majority. If someone really wants your wheels they'll try for them with or without locks. I have seen people put two sets of wheel locks on (each having its own lock) for double security. The wheels I have on my truck would be a lot easier to steal than the ones on my XB. Reason? The wheels on my truck are the type where the lugnuts stick out where as the ones on my XB wheels are recessed. Makes a big difference. I personally use Gorilla locks because I like their "Key" better than MCGards

I've got Gorilla Locks on my xA.
Discount Tire charged me $12 for the set (I think they underpriced).
The locks are chromed, and came with a very sturdy, well-fit key. There's a sticker for the door jam with the serial number and a toll-free number to call if there's a problem. Discount also has a "master" - if you're on their customer registry they'll get you out of a jam.

If you are really afraid someone is going to get your wheels just buy 4 sets of locks and make it real hard for them to get them off.LOL

I have two sets of locks, with two different keys. McGuard and Gorilla.

[preaching] It's a $60 investment on $1,400 rims. They are a great theft deterrent, and keep amateur wheel thieves away. No product can stop professional car thieves 100%, hell, they can always just tow your car away, or smash it to bits and steal nothing! Your car is very vulnerable, and can't protect itself, and the reality is, there are groups of people who go around stealing cars for a living. The problem can't be stopped or ignored. Your best bet is to simply do everything in your power to make the car parked next to you look easier to steal than yours. [/preaching]

McGard SplineDrive with locks. I got a set of "chrome" black ones for my wheels. The SplineDrives are almost locks themselves. I opted for a 5-lug kit from www.summitracing.com for about 90 bucks. 4 extra lugs just in case...

I also got Mcgard recently at summit racing, it doesn't prevent people from stealing the wheels but it's better than without locks on them. If they wanna steal it they have to work it

Factory Lexus (and Toyota if I'm not mistaken) wheel locks are made by McGard. They have a key ID # like Gorillas too if you need to a replacement.

Gorilla for sure... Each special lugnut works as a lock too. You can use your stock lugnut wrench with the included adapter. They are narrow enough to fit most racing wheels.
