Aftermarket Sunroof

Aftermarket Sunroof
I'm new here. I've lurked for a few days and also searched a bunch through the threads and gained some great info.
I do have a question though which I didn't see any talk about.
I am ordering a 2006 xB. I have talked to my dealer and all that, and the accessory sheet they have lists and aftermarket sunroof.
Actually there are 2 options for the sunroof. An electric one, and a "pop-up" one. The prices are $1200 and $500 respectively.
I would really like to have a sunroof. I am really not skilled in doing things like that myself like a lot of you are. So I'm wondering if it's:
a) Worth it.
b) Safe not to leak or warp or anything horrible.
Any thoughts on this? Probably ordering this weekend. Dealer says 3 weeks for delivery.

Hey man,
I have one as well. But I specifically made them install a top-sliding sun roof (you know like the ones on a eclipse) and it's dope.
It looks really sharp and I use it more for a cosmetic appeal.
The ones that slide into the headliner are for the people that really want a sunroof.
Top-sliding looks cooler and does the same though.
How do I like it? Well that depends on what you plan on doing.
I just dropped close over $8K on my stereo and it's rattling bolts loose in the sunroof. I can't turn it up all the way when it's open because I know it is just waiting to jump off track.
Bottom line is if you plan on putting a really loud stereo in don't waste your money on a sunroof.
By the way my top slider does not leak at all and it only cost $899.00
I think it look 10 times better than the other one...
I don't have any pics yet but I'll hook it up hopefully this weekend.

I got my dual sunroof setup through the dealership. They farm out the work, and I'm
not happy with who they hired to do it as they did some sloppy work, but the quality
of the Webasto brand sunroof is right up there!
No leaks, but the rear one is a bit tweaked. It gets stuck going up sometimes, so
I'm probably taking it in to get adjusted.
Enjoy!

I'm glad I saw this thread cause I was thinking of getting one too. Just the pop-up though. Unfortunately Im going to have to research the local businesses to find out who does the best installation cause my dealer did not offer this option. Thanks for the help.

I talked to my dealer, and they offer a large sunroof now. A webasto hollandia 500 I think. Problem is it's $2495!
I really want it though and I think I might go for it. It's a lot to add to my financing, but I want it so bad.
My only hesitation is that I might be able to get it much cheaper elsewhere, or perhaps I could talk them down.
Looks really nice though on the xB.

Don't do it....
You paying close to 15% of what your car is worth for a sunroof.
Always remember one ting. It's cool to have a tricked out car but the more you add to it the more your resale value goes down and the more there is to go wrong....
I'm not saying that the sunroof itself will mess with your resale value. I'm really speaking about aftermarket accessories themselves.
If I could take back installing my sunroof I would. Even though I like it and it looks awesome my bass rattles the bolts loose in it all the time and the people that installed it are telling me that they are going to have to start charging me becuase they know it's because of all of the aftermarket accessories I put in that is making the bolts loosen up.

The shop that installed mine said that they didn't want to do it because it would look sloppy with those ribs up there like that.
He said that some shops will do it but the quality of install will be far less.
I thought about that and gettig a 10" flip down in between them and wrapping the headliner in suede.
That venture would cost me around $2,500......
