Blackout headlights for xB
#63
They were easy, 225 degrees, for about 20-25 minutes, take em out, and start at the end OPPOSITE of the amber reflectors, and just start popping the tabs, which really dont pop since they soft from being in the oven. And get all of those off, and just start pulling, gently but with enough force to separate the lens from the headlight...

Umm quick question, does anyone know how to get the sticky stuff off the lens? LOL, i was putting one of them back together and accidentally got some on the lens, anyone know how I could get it off??? :-D

No, it was on the lens not the inside part... But I used an old school method, PEANUT BUTTERRR!!! Worked like a charm, got it right off... They are done assembled and ready to be installed, pics to be coming soon...

heres a tip: BE PATIENT. do not force the lens off of the housing. if it wont come off with only a little bit of effort, put it back in the oven for a few more minutes. i ruined a set of taillights on my camry due to impatience. cracked the **** out of it.
and dont think a higher oven temperature will help speed things up. you might end up warping something else. id stay around 200 degrees, 205 max. again, be patient.
also, peanut butter can work wonders as you can see. especially when coupled with jelly. and a baseball bat.

mad-sciontist used it to clean up glue that he accidentally got on the lens. i guess the oils in the peanut butter break down the glue or something. works for gum in hair too (so i hear).
you can also buy some goo-gone, you can pretty much find that anywhere.

Yeah i got the sticky adhesive stuff on the lens, and p-nut butter took it right off. Good stuff. As far as the headlights, their done, will be installing them and the grill first thing tomorrow...

You mean the screw that holds the corner signal on??? Hahaha, i almost did the same thing!!! Ummm, u can try to go to Lowes and find a similar one??? Did you loose both or just one???\
Well i had to pull the front end of my xB in the garage to finish putting it all together, so its done, but its pouring rain out. If it decides to clear, i will post pics up.

....and on this week of "Budget Xb Mods Gone Wrong"....
Learn from me, do not use 3m tape that is labeled med-high adhesion, use the BLUE STUFF. also dont use an exacto knife to help you trim up your mask job, i think the combo of these too made the reflective lining come off
So this looks like crap in the daylight, the white stuff you see in the picutres is actuallly gray
So come on geniouses, what do i do now? i was thinking maybe some gold leaf(except the silver kind), or since i have HIDs maybe just paint that strip black to cut down on glare
here is the paint i used, the flat was used for the anti glare shields that youll notice on the bottom of the pic
well, at least my tails came out great...

hmmm yeah, painter's tape is always the suggested tape to use .... your ride looks great btw, i like those wheels ....
yeah i read somewhere someone who painted part of the reflective portion since he had HID's too. said it didnt affect output much, but it did affect it.

Ouch, I'm sorry to hear that it didn't too out too well for yours. Yeah I used the blue painters tape as well, it's the way to go. You can usually find stock headlights for like 50$ on some scion forums if you just want to go back to the original ones... Lol it turned out to be quite a project for you eh?
