Blackout headlights for xB

its next to impossible to freehand with spray paint... and i dont trust testors paint, it failed me in the past as far as durability
FYI be careful using the goo gone. apparently it wears through the chrome if you scrub with it too much. theres a spot on mine...
for some reason, everything that went wrong happened to my driver side light. the chrome looks dirty! but i had to stop cleaning it because it started wearing away.
but it still looks effing great, from a short distance.... pics to come :D

yeah i had the same problem as ryuji, it seemed like everything went wrong on my passanger side light, wich is the first one i did, also make sure you mask off the light very well, cause somehow i got over spray on the reflective part, and i used mineral spirits to wash it off, and like ryuji stated, you gotta be carefull cuase to much wipping will cause the reflective stuff to come right off. luckily i did not have that problem, but it did cuase some slight scratching, with isnt noticeable once the light is back together and installed. i will post up pics of the insalled lights on monday.

Ok, a little off topic, but;
The tails do not need baked, they clip together. I bought an extra set to make some LED tails out of. I've had them apart, but I cracked the edge of one. The crack is very small and near the edge. The "taillight garnish" or whatever the trim around the edges is would cover it up. I've seen it in chrome and painted and thought that would take care of the problem.
Kind of on topic...
I used the crushed reflector method to clear the front corners and had no problems at all. I've seen a few in person that were trashed but mine came our nearly perfect. Just take your time and go slow. Also, get all of the litle pieces out, it looks like crap when they are not clean.
Back on topic...
I just don't see much difference in the painted lights in the pics (except the fully painted ones, which would obviously not perform as well). I think this is something I would need to see in person. Also most seem to prefer gloss paint and my instinct would be to use flat for this project.

i tried to bake my taillights and open them when i wanted to paint them, but i gave up cuz i didnt want to break them and just painted my tails on the outside...
so hopefully the headlights are easier to pry open ?

Here you go guys:
Ill try and get some better pics some other time, but this one gives you the idea. I also re-sprayed my grill in the bedliner spray also, looked pretty good i do say so myself.

I love this MOD but im a little skeptical on doing it....i have a couple questions.....
1. Is Krylon Gloss Black Spray Paint ok to use.....i beilieve that is what you said you used....
2. Have you noticed the spray paint wearing off or cracking at all since you did this because of the high temperatures with the lights on?
3. Do you have to get more silicone to put in the lights when you out them back together or is the amount from the facotry suffiecent.
4. Has anyone had leaking issues?

1. I used Krylon gloss black paint and it worked great.
2. No cracking or wearing off here.
3. You should not need anymore silicone, the factory amount is still enough.

1. I used flat black paint for plastic.
2. I had a bit of peeling, but that was my fault for removing the blue tape before the paint had fully cured. But otherwise, no problems. I'm also running HID.
3. I didn't use any additional sealant.
4. One of them fogged once after I washed it. Since then, I've washed it several times and haven't encountered fogging.
