Chop Top Scion Xb
#25
lean the front pillars back and you can use existing front glass, the rest would require cutting, which can be done with heat and a knife. It would take some skill and challenges, but can be done.
good luck

That front windshield will prove to be more of a challenge than that, leaning the pillars back would mean reconstructing the front door frames and the glass, because you would be drastically changing the angles of the doors.
Before taking a plasma cutter to your ride, research the glass, plexi will not work either because of the compound curve of the glass.
Trust me I met with Troy from five axis, the one who built the Pioneer xB, since they built concept vehicles they had the means to make thier own glass, unfortunately since this was not intended for production the means to duplicate that windshield were destroyed and to retool the glass again copying that chop top would set you back almost 9K.
But hey, if someone does it and has a reliable source for the glass, post away, It's the only thing holding me back ..lol

The A-Pillar reconstruction is nothing for someone who knows what they are doing. Pie cut here, pie cut there... Just a little tedious and time consuming. Getting a completely custom front windshield would cost way more in the long run.
And unless I am mistaken, only the windshield on the xB is safety glass. That means every other piece of stock glass could be cut down to match the chop. And some of the glass might not even need to be cut depending on how the chop was performed. Spending an extra grand (if that) at a fab shop and probably under a grand to a good glass shop sounds a lot better than 9 grand for all new glass.

I'd say, measure the front windshield, then determine the amount of chop you want, then try and picture how far back you have to lean that windshield to see where it realistically has to sit, your front ds and ps window may look like triangles ..lol. All the glass in the vehicle is tempered BTW, which makes it impossible to cut.
Believe me guys there are enough people on this forum with skills, that could accomplish anything. The mere lack of chop tops suggests that there is an aspect that financially does not provide the ROI or is near impossible to accomplish.
Personally, nothing is impossible to accomplish, so atm, it may not be financially worth it.

I looked at the xB long and hard, with the thought of leaning the glass back...I think it's a great idea, but it does present other complications besides just the a-pillar. It encroaches on the dash, and the bottom gaps in the center as it's leaned back.
I would be willing to bet that somewhere out there, in production, is a piece of OEM replacement glass for SOMETHING that would be perfect to use in a chopped xB. Finding that piece would be harder than sitting here typing about it, but I'm sure it's out there.

I know we pride ourselves on finding that $130 .00 mod, that looks awesome. This is not one of them, for a minute forget xB's, i'm sure the number of chop top vehicles, hot rod or otherwise that you have seen in your own town are few and far between.
That mod represents the ultimate in metal work, glass work and engineering, so it will always remain one of the most expensive mods available.
But whoever takes this the wrong way and dedicates time to prove it wrong .. post the results, because many of use with plasma cutters and welding equipment are waiting for the glass source ..

I'm expecting this mod to take awhile, not to mention talent an money to back it. I got a good team to help me, but I still need all the tips an tricks I can get......time to buy a cheap car to drive around town.

Sounds like a challenge, after all I know someone with access to getting me the smaller windshield.... (new 06 challenge?)
