chopping the roof
#6
I heard rumor of one xB here in Chicagoland that's supposed
to get a 4" chop. But I've not seen it in person yet. I heard
this back in March. I wonder if they got it done, and done well.
I wouldn't mind a 4" chop. Talk about lowering your box!

It would be MAJOR work. Not a DIY kinda project, not even a self-funded one. Altho it seems very square, it tapers to the top. You'd need a custom windshield. It will take a lot of reinforcing to maintain the structural intregrity of a unibody. Better add a rollcage, which will cost you headroom on top of what you chopped. Besides chopping the hatch, will the windows arch right for the doors if the frames are shorter?
I just don't see it happening too often, if at all. If someone does, tho, I'll buy 'em a beer.

i would like to make a permant convertible
just chop that sucka @ the door panel tops
it probably wouldn't make it down the block though
that roof is a HUGE structural member sunroofs can cause wierd stuff (especially in a wreck)

I can't imagine why a shorter roof would need reinforcing.
Smaller lengths of material are stronger then longer ones.
As for the sunroof and roof tweaking...you don't have to tell me about that!
I've got two sunroofs, and one doesn't always open well depending on how much
I've tweaked the body with my driving! LOL

Lonely, explain this with your sunroofs?
They dont open if you've been driving hard? I may have totally misread that. I'm interested because I like the dual sunroofs a ton better than one huge Webasto.
thanks

it is possible lol
me and a few friends just got our hands on a project box... we already started choppin the top and we are in fact tryin to accomplish a 4 in drop.. luckily we know a custom glass shop that said they would help us out.. its also bagged, the bags are already done, as soon as we get some rims on it ill try to get some pics up and then hopefully all will go well with the chopping and ill have those pics up in the next month or so. oh i need some ideas on rims cuz i dont want to go bigger then 16's so that i can get as low as i can to the ground and not have to cut the wheel well out to much, although we were thinkin of tubbing the rear so size is still open..
