Default Drill bit question for spoiler install

I need some help. I purchased an OEM rear spoiler and I'm ready to install. According to the directions I need a 3mm and a 5mm drill bit. Problem is, I don't have one. I went to Lowes and Home Depot and shopped for them but all the drill bits are SAE.

Where can I get metric bits? I was thinking maybe Auto Zone or Advance?

Thanks.

technically you don't need those. that is just to drill a pilot hole.

For the gigantic drill bits you actually need the 12 and 14 mm i suggest buying a step big. thats what i did. should be able to pick them up at a Harbor Freight store if you have one close.

You could always use an SAE equivalent.

If you go small, you might have to ream the holes out a bit. The larger sizes aren't all that large: .175 mm is just under 7 thousandths of an inch.

If you used a 3/16ths instead of a five, you'd have to ream the hole out about 9 thousandths of an inch.

7 / 64 = = .109375 = 2.778125 mm
8 / 64 = 1 / 8 = .125 = 3.175 mm

and

12 / 64 = 3 / 16 = .1875 = 4.7625 mm
13 / 64 = = .203125 = 5.159375 mm

Cheers,
MD

No Harbor Freights nearby. The instructions list the 3 and 5 but make no mention of any other drill bits.

Ok, I went and read all the way through the instructions and now I see that I will indeed need a 12 and 14mm bit. Seems as though I could use a small SAE bit for the pilot holes so I don't have to buy four new bits.

Do you think I could use an SAE equivalent size for the 12 and 14 bits? If so, which size?

Thanks.

Just pick up a step bit like a "unibit". Sears sells them as well as Home Depot and Lowes. That is what I use to mount up the OEM spoilers in my shop.

Ok, I looked them up online. The one I see says ideal for cutting through thin material such as brass, ss, etc. Would that work? I've never seen these bits before, are they easy to use?

What size do you use in your shop?

I used the SAE equivelants, I believe they ran a tad small, then i used a reamer to bring the hole to size and it worked great.

Yup. Thats the one. They are super easy to use....however, i was scared out of my mind when i drilled with the because of the size hahaha.

It is simple, just go slow. You will feel when it goes up to the next step on the bit.

I can't stress this enough: MEASURE MEASURE MEASURE AND MEASURE AGAIN!!!!

the templates that came with mine were slightly off when i taped them up.

The hole markers on the template were correct, but the distance from template to template was off. measure the holes on your spoiler, and align the templates to that.

and then measure it again.

I just installed mine today

everything was great UNTIL i was done
and the doorlocks/brake lights didnt work

Possible i snipped a wire during drilling?

Anyone ever hear of that before?

I changed the fuses and all is working now but the only harness in there is the rear high brake light

THoughts input?

as for the OP
on the back of drill bits they convert them for you
