ah! i see.. cool, learned something new today! thanks K Dawg, I'll check this thread for more info tomorrow..

oi! that means that all those CF hoods i've seen aren't fully CF? bah! minus pimp points! plus if it's only the top layer, you're not really getting the weight reduction of CF? although fiberglas can't be that much heavier can it?

sorry.. rambling..

^^actually, the 'cf' hoods that you buy are significantly lighter than OEM. FG is very very light. Ironically, a full CF hood is often heavier than an FG hood or a 'cf top layer on top of FG' hood like we will be producing (or you can buy from ViS, etc).
However, a full CF is significantly stronger than both OEM and FG (strong enough that if you were hit from the front, the hood would fly through your window in one piece...lol)

that conjured a horrifying image of an accident.. worse than a surfboard (Lethal Weapon styles) *shudder*

The main reason for getting the interest for the hood is to cover the cost of the mold. It is the mold itself that costs so much money (hence the need for guarantee buyers).
I will try and find out, but, im sure that since the process is the same, once the mold is made, an FG hood could be created out of the mold.

For now, lets keep the commital list to CF untill I talk to JSP tommorow. Perhaps they will do a special production for those interested in FG only...
I'd be VERY interested if these were fiberglass. I could do without the pricey top layer of carbon fiber. Please let us know. Not everyone, in fact many of us, don't want carbon fiber. Maybe do a "poll" thread on the subject?

Just so people know, I am going to see about JSP's ability to produce a CF and an FG version to keep everyone happy!

Just got off the phone with JSP...
-They are 100% gonna do the hood ASAP!!!
-normally, they do GB's of about ten cf hoods. This is to cover the cost of the moulding process. If an FRP only hood was to be made, they made need more than 10 buyers (10 FG hoods wont cover the cost of molds).
-they said that it may be possible to do the hood based on 10 buyers (mixed with CF and FRP buyers), but, would have to get back to me.
-Noramlly, they will offer an FRP version of a cf hood, but, only after the original batch of CF hoods are made.

Once they email me back more info, I will post up!

Thanks for lookin' into the FG possibility, Man!

What would the approximate cost of a FG version be if we were to do the mixed group?
