Amazingly enough - there's been no mention of JSP giving any kind of proper credit and or compensation for using his design. It's one thing when a few people replicate something for there own use, but something entirely else when a large company hijacks the design for profit (and you know when it goes into mass production - it's going to be presented as a "JSP ORIGINAL DESIGN!")

Hey, business is business - but if I was Lowbox, I'd probably be a little irritated at least.

Everyone got their panties all wadded up when a company 'stole' the rights to a stainless brake line kit from a member.

I like the hood. I'd better... since I made one a few days after Lowbox showed his design - but at least I told Lowbox I was gonna jack his design - but that too was a not-for-sale one-off job.

Hey... more power to JSP I suppose. But they could at the least pay some sort of small homage to Lowbox for desiging their up and coming 'hottest new product'.

Please read the thread a little more closely. JSP didnt steal the design. I brought it to them. In the other threads, there was alot of people wanting that hood in CF. Since I have contacts at JSP, I contacted them.
I also gave credit in the opening couple of posts to the innovators of this particular hood...

unless i see a patent on that design, there's no need to compensate anyone, "borrowing" design ideas is a staple of the inport tuner community, get used to it.

even still with a patent, the rightful owner can get the short end!

you think fabulous or kenstyle see any compensation from all the knock-off kits being sold here in the states?

thought so...

I know JSP didn't start it - In the last 30+ years... reading is one of the things I learned how to do.

And if you would read MY post a little closer and apply a little more comprehension to it, no one would 'question' (per se) my post.

I quite clearly said "business is business" - this is how things work. If someone doesn't like it, they're welcome to start a company, make the same product - and sell it for even less and kill the 1st company's sales.

None of that changes the irony in the situation that I was pointing out.

Yeah ... Lowbox KINDA got credit - but the writing's on the wall. It's HIS design (although 2 others of us have copied it in metal) - I'd just hate to see all his 'thunder' be taken away.

IMO, he came up with the best looking modification to date - and a reminder of who first designed it doesn't hurt anyone.

I think it's OK that JSP agreed to make the hoods - it's a limited run for some members here that really wanted it but either have no fabrication skills or just simply no time to make it. But when they make their first run for the people here - you can be gauranteed they'll make another run of a 100 and you'll see it in every JSP ad in SCC, HCI, etc....

i see both points of view. i would hate to bust out something pimp, and then not be the only one to rock it because somebody mass produced it. they should call it the lowbox hood or something to at least pay homage to him, but at the same time shouldn't the toyota design team get some credit too? they designed the hood.....
everyone should just be thankful that he was not selfish and showed off his custom mod. i'm sure he was aware that there would be biters but, didn't care. you think if only scion xb owners saw it in his hometown while he was driving around that it would have blown up like this? no way. i know a lot of guys that keep things on the dl so they can be original, and i don't see anything wrong with that.

When the hood goes into production, ill if see if JSP will call it 'Lowbox Style' or sumthing like that. Its no skin off their ***** (it doesnt promote another company, like calling it 'ViS Style' or something) and pyas homeage to the originator.
I cant guarantee though as JSP is a large company, but, i will try.

I think the designer of the origional Celica hood should be compensated
Seriously tho plagarism is the sincerest form of flattery. Plus he and the few others that have actual METAL Lowbox-style hoods will get all the props anyway.

that would be dope. if it was my idea that would be enough for me, because i don't have the funds to start my own company. i would be happy not gettin any $$$, but instead gettin my props from a major company. but thats just from my whole love of the scene. a lot of shops do custom work on customers cars and turn around and sell the parts without even acknowlegding the owner. then the owner looks like he just bought the crap from them in the first place and his"custom work"turns into a halfass premade, non-original.

I have nothing new to report guys.
As far as I know, the wheel is in motion. Im not sure what that entails on the manufacturing end. For all I know, the design team must submit a proposal for approval, etc....i will post up as soon as i know anything.
