There really isnt any special "spacer" with this. Actually, you can prop your hood by simply using washers or a single nut put securely between the hood hinges and the hood itself. you can get all the necessary hardware at autozone for about $2.00

Why would someone do this?? Looks silly. Has no performance purpose. Can cause damage and wear to the hood latching mechanism and or hood and grille.

it looks like a busted hood that was slammed down to many times.

i heard once it was for increased airflow to cool the engine. but that was spacing the front of the hood.

funny how things appear and stick iin the automotive world, when they mean and do nothing

thats a love it or hate it type of look.

i think it would drive me nuts to have my hood proped up like that.

but a cheap and stylish mod for those who want it.

where did it originate from? i never noticed it until i saw 2Tone

WE USED TO DO IT ON OUR AIR COOLED VW BEETLES TO GIVE ITA BETTER WAY TO COOL THE ENGINE. BUT THOSE WERE REAR ENGINE CARS.

I was thinkin of some civics with K and B motor swaps. the motors are pretty tall and hood clearence is an issue.

the beetle thing was a given and THAT looked cool.

(psssst... your shouting)

True, but, depending on the air intake design by the windshield it might also effect the A/C function because of the hot air in its intake (Most interior climate systems intake their air from the base of the windshield).

if he wants em, let him do it.

besides the warm engine
reason, i have another reason for mine to be up like that.

Of course!! That is what modding is all about. Not my style but whatever turns you on is good. Differing styles and ideas is what makes car crafting fun. It is always best to examine all the angles before a mod as well.

i believe he got the idea from me, as far as i can see i'm the only one on oahu with hood spacers on a box. we both pass by eachother one the road here and there. for me it's not only looks. functional as well. it helps suck out the hot air more efficient. it's just like driving and leaving one window slightly opened to suck out smells or cigarette smoke. hot air rises so i don't think it gets sucked that well with the open on the bottom of the engine compartment. plus i have a open grille which lets cold air in. it's rare to come across these spacers. my hood has a two inch lift on it and the spacer arn't really spacers.

(not all will think this looks nice. everyone has a preferences)

Take out the weather stripping at the top of the hood...

Take out the plastic wheel well inserts...

Never seen a xB overheat, even in hot climates.... but ok.

Performance wise if you have a CAI its grabbing air from the drivers foglight hole and the wheel well.

I say it looks tacky and well like the cars falling apart

IMO
