Re: The circular bottom set

What does the turn signal flash look like when lit up? I know it's more of a stock rectangular look on the square bottoms, but I'm wondering...is it more of a big lit up circle?

it is a half circle lit up. it's a very poor design really. the light output is less than desirable. the bottom half of the circle is for reverse lights. I want to get my hands on a set and turn the entire bottom into a reverse light with a custom white LED board that takes up the entire circle.

im pretty sure this is why they redesigned the lights with a rectangular and larger, more distinguished space for turn signals and reverse lights.

Selling black set with Circular bottoms

Its easy to convert the bottom to pure reverse but you would have to custom design the White LED board

Let me know if your interested

Does anyone know where I can still pick up a set of the red-clear with rectangular bottoms?

The ebay well ran dry on me a few days ago.

I wonder if sealing the ends of the weather stripping together would keep the water out of the LEDs? Notice the stock xB tail weather stripping overlaps in length for full coverage of the perimeter. Or is the back of the housing unrelated to the water seepage mentioned as happening directly inside the covers?

looks great, but what do the lights look like when you just have the lights not and not the brake depressed?

i may pick these up, someone hit-and-run me and i need to get a tail light, which they wanted to charge me $140! for.

if you're just looking for a stock replacement tail light, they are cheap as dirt on ebay....but then again these aftermarket ones aren't that expensive either also on ebay. I assume you meant the dealer wanted to charge $140 for a stock replacement, which is BS.

Check Craigslist/Junkyard links. You can get a new looking set for a much better deal.

Can anyone that has seen 'smoked' versions of these LED tail lights comment on whether or not the red reflector still functioned perfectly fine compared to the stock lights?

I just finished installing the 'red smoke' set on my B. The plastic sockets that hold the turn/backup bulbs could be made of better plastic, but with some serious hand twisting I was able to get them to lock back into the light housing without too much damage to the lock tabs...

Other than that the install went without a hitch. I carefully looked over the wires to check integrity, then made sure to tuck the slack safely away so that nothing should have been pinched during the landing and tightening.

Oh and I disconnected the (-) on the batt beforehand to be safe. Crap, gotta redo the radio presets now, haha.

Will post some pics in a few days.

congrats! now time to mod them so the LED portion of the light is your turn signal as well :-)

You're too extreme for me, heh. I haven't even used a solder before, haha. I must start practicing with LEDs on toy xBs first
