I purchased the optional Yakima rack for my xB. It didn't come with the Yakima fairing - without the fairing, the wind noise is awful. If you are considering this, please test the product on a car. I think you'll want to provide a fairing OR better yet - a basket with a fairing on the front like the Nissan Xterra.

1 - No.

2 - I'm not against the idea, but I'd rather have a factory accessory that allows fork-mounts inside the vehicle. (With the back seats folded down of course), and maybe a tire net similar to the OEM 'flat tire net' to hold the dismounted front wheels/tires.

3 - Yes as an option.

4 - Removeable, with as little negative cosmetic impact as possible.

5 - $250

6 - Bike Carrier, aerodynamic fairing, cargo carrier for extra storage, or a gun turret. (a directional EMP weapon would work provided the drain on the alternator wouldn't be too severe and there was no possibility of catching your own vehicle in the blast.)

I'd like to see both, a removable and a fixed rack as options. They should be $200.00 no more. I do not have one now. I will need one for my kayak. So, i'd like to see that, bike, ski and board carriers.

I don't have one yet.

I want one.

I would pay up to $200 for the rack, as long as the extras were cheap enough.

I don't care if it's screw on or removable.

To carry Bikes, baskets, and kayaks.

I'm all for the idea of the roof rack, so much so I designed one myself ... It does not screw into the truck at all. The mounts sit in the existing gutter and its tougher than nails ... Its made of stainless steel and is very light, 20lbs. Here are some pics. PM me if you want details ..

I'm planning on buying an xB and 75" rails are a must for it.

I like the 75" rails on the one shown above

"PerryCraft DynaSport 75" roof rails DIY Kit $75 + $12 S&H"

I like the idea of removable cross members so as to save on gas (wind resistance) when not carrying say 2x4's or a sheet of plywood.

Also the cross members should be aerodynamically shaped, not square, to minimize wind and noise.

My understanding of the 75" PerryCraft rails is that the installer must pre-bend them to fit the curvature of the xB, so, I'd prefer the dealer install them. Their instructions read that the rails do not screw into pre-existing support areas for the xB and that mounting holes are to be drilled through the thin sheet metal. I'd like to know if there are areas on the xB's roof that are more reinforced than others that could be drilled into that would make the rails more secure.

Thanks,

Kerry

PS. Even more important to me is factory Cruise Control.

I don't thin the roof is reinforced in those areas. Thats why the yakama rails attach to the door frame for strength. I think yakama rakcs are rated up to 300lbs. I would feel safe with that type of load on the roof usign some thin screws.

Yakama is fine for me, I plan on ording one next month w/ 3 bike rails up there and the fork mounts. That alone id about 100lbs of MTB

How about a factory arm rest?

ROOF RACK If you plan to order them, make sure to get straight rails
only! (NON-BENT) turst me you'll see.
I'm sporting the entire unit w/ OEM looking cross rails that you see on most SUVs.
Check my profile and see for yourself, they may be small pix but gives you the idea.
The part is # DS4575BLK (NON-BENT) for Scion xB

I've already contacted and notified the vendor regarding the issue about pre curved ends.

The unit is easy to install if you are HANDY!

The roofrack system is rated for 75# and is more than enough to get a Queen sized bed
on top. If you are planning on hauling heavy stuff on the roof, you can probably order
another cross member...making it 3 total for even weight distribution

Even though there isn't a structural brace on the roof, the mounting points of this system
are close enough to the roof seams and from personal experience, I've loaded a Queen
sized matress and box spring on my car. NO ROOF ISSUES....but that's MY experience and
I just leave the cross members on the car (both slid to the back) 'coz
it looks good, acts like another wing and I know they're on the car (not missing somewhere)

CRUISE CONTROL
A friend of mine installed my Rostra Cruise Control unit. Most dealers will charge you
between $450-600 for this added feature. IF THEY WOULD EVEN DO IT. The CC unit
will need to be installed by a (non dealer) professional and should cost about $350-400.

Good luck and hopefully that helped.
Ryan

1. Yes- Yakima

2. It's a must-have.

3. Yes

4. I'd like a fixed set of front to back rails that would accept the Yakima cross bars, accessories and maintain the Yakima load limits...

5. I willingly paid $220 plus shipping for my Yakima, so I'd pay somewhat more for an integrated unit...

6. See 4. above...
