Default Update on Dual Moonroof install...

In a previous thread I mentioned how the Webasto Panoramic Moon roof is no longer
supported for the xB because of issues with the roof "buckling" on some boxes.

Well I went with a dual Webasto 3630 install for my box, one sunroof for the front
seats, and another one for the rear seats instead.

I just got a call from the dealership telling me that the installers are all done with
the setup, but one of the motors (the front one of course) burnt out and they
need to replace the whole mechanism.

Doesn't instill much confidence in the hardware, and of course Webasto says
they've never seen a bad motor right out of the box.

The good news is, I called Toyota Extended Auto Care and asked if my
6 year 100,000 Platinum Warranty would cover the sunroof and the response I got
was:

"The warranty excludes glass and trim"

I asked "but the motor, mechanism, and switches would be covered"

They said "yes, just not the glass and trim"

So I feel a little bit better about my moon roof escapade. I won't have them both
working for the Auto show this weekend, but I know they are covered for longer then
I'll probably be keeping the box.

I just thought I'd share!

why would Toyota warranty an aftermarket sunroof? Did you specify that it was not a toyota sunroof when you called ?- thats why Webasto warranties your sunroof, not toyota....

A dealership installed, financed through Toyota Financing sunroof.

Again, this is why I called Toyota Extra Care.

What, you think I make this stuff up?

What's with ragging on TP? I can get a good two, three uses out of the right piece of toilet paper.

Lonely Raven check your PM. I also financed a Webasto sunroof through Toyota, from my understanding Toyota will fix it, Webasto will warranty the parts!! I beleive it is a 5 year deal. I have the Panaramic roof and love it and have had no issues yet!!

Check it!
