In retail sales, a bait and switch is a form of fraud in which the party putting forth the fraud lures in customers by advertising a product or service at an unprofitably low price, then reveals to potential customers that the advertised good is not available but that a substitute is. This use of this term has extended to similar situations outside of the marketing sense.

The goal of the bait-and-switch is to convince some buyers to purchase the substitute goods as a means of avoiding disappointment over not getting the bait, or as a way to recover sunk costs expended to try to obtain the bait. It suggests that the seller will not show the original product or products advertised but instead will demonstrate a more expensive product or a similar product with a higher margin. Other advertising practices, such as the use of sales techniques to steer customers away from low-profit items, depend on many of the same psychological mechanisms as a bait and switch



I see this as just a lack of updating the advertisement pictures, which is the manufacturers fault, not an issue of the ebay vendors pulling the bait and switch. It's not like your getting a lesser quality, different brand, it's the same brand, just a newer version.

no, you misread. "my" mod doesn't make anything more or less visible. it just allows you to use the LED portion of the light (which is designed correctly with individual reflectors) as your turn signal on top of park and brake function. i've yet to find a better alternative which is why i have stuck with it. it has nothing to do with being clever. it only has to do with having the brightest possible LED option with a premade tail light both day and night... as a retrofit with the OEM lenses is impossible without shaving/sanding/polishing. already been there and learned the lesson.

no, i am not offended that you do not use "my" mod. i could care less. i was just letting you know i've been down this road, done the research and testing, and there is no brighter alternative. i could really care less what you do. the only thing that is annoying is how you sit here whining about how you are so victimized in this seemingly premeditated scam out to get you. yes, all of these vendors are out to get you and the rest of us. it is a huge hierarchy conspiracy to bait and switch all the 1st gen scion Xb drivers out there wanting LED tail lights. thank God we have the XBHAWK to stop them dead in their tracks. thank you for your unrelenting verbal retaliation against all of these vicious ebay vendors

go ahead then, find ALL the different little ebay sellers selling these lights, order lights from all of them, and keep freaking out when you get the ONLY KIND THEY SELL which is the updated versions. so the company didn't produce new advertisement pictures... GET OVER IT. i think everyone reading this understands where you're coming from with your complaining but then you just take it to a whole new level and don't seem to get the big picture and won't stop. how much money have you spent on all of this now? lol

do you know why they even changed the light? the newer diffused lens portion covering the signal/reverse areas allow for more even light disbursement. a bulb behind a completely clear lens with very minimal reflector help doesn't do very well in terms of disbursement. if you've ever seen the "old" style you would see how they are lacking in visibility and the differentiating between signal/reverse because they share the same tiny little circle reflector. the "new" style fixed this problem. why you refuse to recognize and actually embrace this, i don't think anyone understands. i hope you are able to come to terms with all this... as traumatizing as you've made it.

I was baited in with the old lights and switched over to the new lights. Read the thread, I did not buy blind, I got every assurance I could get before buying.

Thanks for the wackopedia definition. I clearly did not meet the unspecified financial threshold to satisfy the word parsers, so feel free to sue me for all my assets.

UPDATE: All of the e-bay vendors have pulled their ads for the old style lamps. (Because of my actions) Now it is on to the rest of the internet vendors. They can sell me the lights that I want in the picture or they should pull their ad. Vendors don’t dispute my ‘bait & switch’ terminology, they pledge to communicate better in the future.
My search for the ‘old style’ LED TAILS has cost me nothing, so far, and will continue no matter what anyone says or posts.
