This is almost a sidebar reply. He mentions wanting "a little more power"....let's discuss?

more power? Don't much think you can get a power gain with a bettter flowing muffler.

reason why: the catalytic converter is the roadblock, not the muffler.

case in point: last nigtt on LeJeuene road (straight, 40mph four lane avenue)

I caught up with a one year old BOP xB. I am driving a three week old RS2.

DC straight-through muffler in the RS2. I've got the -most restrictive- insert in that muffer: an insert of 1.5" pipe. It's quiter that way- and for a change of pace I go quiet or loud.

The BOP owner is on new TRD 19 inch wheels. I don't know what muffler he has.
The RS2 is on stock wheels and tires.

(I think his overall wheel diameter is possibly a tad larger. That makes a taller "gear ratio")

-POINT IS: my car's DC brand sports muffler is tuned to old lady restrictive mode.
The BOP has either a stock muffler or a TRD muffler.

We two did a thirty-to-fifty mph WOT accell test. We paced evenly. On the count of three spoken through open windows.

By fifty, where I shut off throttle I was nearing two car lengths ahead.

The bottom line:

-insufficient data to make hard conclusions
-my restrictive mufflfer did not hurt my 'race'. I won handily.

why? tires? His car was spotless and not loaded up with cargo. He might weigh 50 pounds more'n me.

subjective conclusion:

The muffer is not the place to look for more power for these cars. The catalytic converter makes much more back pressure than the stock muffler. And that is OK! it works, it runs it lasts it is the law and it's good for the air

those hugew wheels are what kill the power . and yes a cat is more restrictive than a muffler but just cnahing catback gets you 4+hp so very worth it , let alone removing cats is a federal offense

One more shot of the underside - might give some idea of layout...

zow, the steel wheels and phone dial plastic covers are intact!

would be even prettier if it were an RS2 with it's mirror polished and engraved DC sports muffler!

ha ha

oh... that shows too that VSC needs to be tweaked with an inversion sensor.

ha ha ha

If youre trying to gain horsepower go ahead and get headers, get rid of the cat, and get a muffler. You will gain Horsepower, BUT YOU WILL LOSE TORQUE (your car will not accelerate any faster, it might be even slower). The Scion's require backpressure to create torque, all naturally aspirated cars live off the back pressure, now if youre Turbo'ed this is a different story. Best way to make the car accelerate faster is to get headers, ditch the cat and resonator but keep the stock muffler, the car will sound raspy but you retain back presusure and gain torque. It all depends on what you plan to do with the car. To drag race it you want torque, for the freeway/tollway you want horsepower. Just my two cents...don't hold me accountable if you dont like the results though...
