Attention MAC Carputer Users!!! I need Your Help!!!
I need to know if any of you have used the VM84 touch screen monitor on your mac. If so may I ask HOW you got it to work. Also What monitor did you use and how do you get it to function? THANKS!

Might want to check out the forums at http://www.mp3car.com. They're pretty knowledgeable over there.

I have that monitor, on a pc based system though. AFAIK, it uses the standard usb class for a usb-serial device, then after that the interface is elo touchscreen compatible, as it even comes w/ elo drivers (note: elo drivers come in 2 flavours: native usb and serial, this uses the serial). I would emagine that Elo makes mac drivers.
ditto on mp3car.com, they have a forum specifically for "macCar" (link)... their store sold a rebranded version of the screen, too, for a while I think.

See I dont need a touch screen I just need a monitor because I am going to hook up a track pad instead of using it as a touch screen.
What is a good regular monitor out there? Also what can I use to mount just a monitor since it does not have a full casing behind it?

It has a standard d-sub input for video in (and 2 rca inputs too, don't use those though). takes 12v for power, from where ever you want to get it.
As for mounting, mine came with a sketchy stand, I added 2 pieces of plywood (and a bit of dremel work) to mount it via the oven (company car, can't do permanent mods). On the back of the screen it does have a piece of metal that can be removed or modified as a good mounting point, thats where mine attaches and its solid.
Btw, if you're planning on putting it into the spot where the stereo is, it is too tall and you'll have to modify the opening.
I can take some pics for you of it if you like.

How are you running your power supply so that your mac will fall asleep everytime you turn your car off and not completley shut down?
Also I have seen pics of a guy that uses his oven to house his mac mini however when working on it this weekend you would have to completley cut out the back half of the oven and I dont know how much room there is after that to run wires.
Thanks

Allows you to retain your use of your oven (I will be mouting my usb trackpad in there for easy access.
It also makes for easy plugin to your power invertor.
I will post some pics when I get it done.
You know how to wire it to sleep when you turn your car off instead of shutting down?
