^^lol

In the official rule book, under section 3.1 it states the Scion xB as a "do not allow" vehicle. This is where we started.. If you arent familiar with the SCCA, they have a monthly report called "Fastrack", this shows changes to the rule book, considerd just as golden at the events, ammendments basically. So in the March 2007 Fastrack report found here:
http://scca.com/documents/Fastrack/07-03-fastrack.pdf

is the official word changing the Scion xB from do not allow, to: "NOTE: The Scion xB is eligible for STS"

Pg. 42 Line 5

Print that page, also you can email Doug Gill at the SCCA, he is who helped with the majority of getting it ok to run, and continues to help.
DGill@scca.com

Here is an email from him:

Hi, Eric,

The Scion xB is not eligible for Stock category, but it is eligible for Street Touring (which requires tires with a minimum UTQG treadwear rating of 140 or higher). I expect it to be official when the March 2007 FasTrack is posted on the website (which I expect any day now).

It would probably be better for the xB to also have suspension upgrades compliant with Street Touring.

Keep in mind that the Solo Rules are maintained by the Solo Events Board, a group of volunteer SCCA members. The SCCA National office does not do this. If you have concerns about the Solo Rules, you’re welcome to ask me. If you’d like to request a rule change, I can help with that, too, but it would eventually go to the SEB.

Hope this helps.

xB crew, you def do rock

i've been running in STS due to springs/struts and non-R comp rule. but now with motor mounts and 6 piston brakes going on it should get interesting. I'll happily run NC on street tires if allowed

i've only had my xb feel unstable once, that said it wasnt at an autocross and downhill through super twisties can be unsettling in any car. and i've also been in a caterham that has gone shiny side down on at a track day without dropping a wheel off

In the Cincy area, and Lexington area's, you have to have it at least lowered. Which puts you in STS. So no stock class for the xB around here.

Too bad we can't get a straight answer on why they are singling out the xB. It's got to be more than just the "tall looking roofline"

Autocross is all about driver skill, brakes, and suspension. Has nothing to do with horse power. So that xB could have been driven by someone better, and probably placed top 10, or with some brake upgrades (lord knows everyone over looks that) probably better as well.

My stock brakes did fine and never had any fade run after run but upgraded pads and rotors might be even better.

Yeah, stock will get you buy on most courses, but upgraded is still probably the best thing to do.

Well the CartCT group that I wanted to run with wouldn't let me without "fully race preparing" my xB, but the FCSCC group was happy to let me run with them in STS. This weekend was the first event I attended. My first run was a 50.something, the last of my 7 runs was a 46.87, and after two "fun runs" I was down to a 46.26. Not fast, but considering my friend in an RX-8 was running 44s and this was my first time out I'm happy.
Some pics:

As far as I can tell from asking people and from pictures I never so much as lifted an inside wheel, never mind getting tippy. And this is bone stock except for Monroe rear shocks (which are softer) and a Progress 22mm rear sway bar.
