Default Automatic shifting late?

Just (FINALLY!!!) got my xB about a week ago. So far, everything's perfect, but a couple of times when leaving work, I'll hit the highway and (not gunning it) it seems like it stays in 2nd gear almost too long, and then will stay in 3rd up into the 4k RPM range... that's as high as I let it go before decelerating a lot and getting it back in place.

Obviously, it's automatic.

It's not shifting roughly or anything... just seems like it's staying in those gears too long... But it only happens when I first start out, and not every time. I'm sure it could be the way I'm driving it. I'm still getting used to how much different it drives and brakes compared to my '96 Bonneville... lol.

Just not sure if I should worry about this, have it looked at, or fix something I might be doing wrong.

Any suggestions?

It's normal... the car's warming up. When the blue light on the dash goes out (when the coolant temp reaches 137 deg F on my Scangauge) the car will shift normally.

It's a protective measure...

Just take it easy until that light goes off.

x2

while the blue light is on the xB's tranny has overdrive off, causing it to sound, feel, and act like it's not shifting right. If you turn the O/D off it'll act the same.

The more I think about it Scioin should have mentioned it to everyone, I think about everyone had concerns about it. lol

To both: thanks a bajillion. (that how you spell that?)

I figured it was something of the sort, but knowing specifically that OD is off makes it make perfect sense.

I've never been into cars until now. Mostly because I never had a car whos insides or outsides I cared much about tweaking.

But of course, now I've had my first taste and I'm hooked.

Totally. Getting married on March 29... my little box will be stock for quite awhile. = )

konsumer [here on SL] is coming up for my wedding and prolly helping me out with some tint, and possibly springs. Hallelujah. Hopefully that will tide me over for awhile.

Any super cheap, worthwhile mod ideas?

I've been scoping them out around here for awhile - plan on moving/shading badges, installing 2nd dome.

The first major change I want to make, that I'm surprised I haven't seen done yet (maybe I missed it), is the gear indicator-majig on the shift lever (automatic). Those big goofy letters don't match a thing in the car, and look almost like the ones from a Kia I used to drive. I'm gonna figure out how to take that apart and replace/change that as soon as possible.

Where are you at around Memphis? No pics in your profile, I was going to see if I've seen you around before.

None in mine yet either, tho... riding stock BSP, caps even, no wheels yet. = (

You involved with any of the clubs around here? Not a heck of a lot of activity, but enough that I'd like to start getting to know people, etc.
