I have an auto tranny on my box... I don't think it's junk at all. Actually I think it's the best car I have purchased so far... as far as value and fun factor (previous buys: Montero Sport, BMW Z4, Acura CL, Land Rover Discovery)

It all depends on your preference.. if you want a 5-speed... don't buy the auto... you probably won't be happy. As for me.. I'm using it for commuting to work and cruising when not at work. I'm not looking to making it a box-rocket.

the auto's are great cars but just like any car with a manual or a auto the manual will almost always be quicker.

Do you actually thinks these xb are that fast! These are made for all show and no go. Thats why I got an auto and not manual. Strictly a crusier.

Yeah the manual is a fair bit quicker than the auto, but the auto is by no means junk.

NBXB04---I don't think the auto's are so slow as to call them junk :? .

More so, I think it is general perception that makes people think it is slow.
Slower than the manual transmission? I guess, in a race I'm sure the manny would get up to speed faster...

Still fun to drive and a great vehicle? Damn straight!

It sounds like you want a manual transmission so why put yourself through any grief, just get the manny and let someone that wants an autoBox have what they want.

I think you should test drive one and so, if you are collecting the RS1.0 before they are all gone then you might have to just bite the bullet...

my only complaint with my auto is in the 40-60 mph range.. (i belive third gear)

The car is really peppy from a stop.. I hit 4k rpms in a heartbeat and my shift goes thru. Then again with the second......(when i floor it.. regular gas pressing it shifts at 3k)...

Then, when my car is in the 40 mph range it seems to slow down in picking up speed, especially on the freeway...

To take care of it, i just punch it a little harder.. but that hurts the gas mileage...

Does anyone else experience the same thing?

I agree, first gear seems alittle slow to me but it seems to quickly shift into second. Second seeems really peppy through then the 40-60 range gets a little sluggish. Overall though...its not too bad at all especially if you dont mind flooring it.

I have an auto. It's peppy for me. Once the speed reaches around 40-45MPH, I can feel something that pushes me back to the seat. Probably VVT-i working. I can't recollect what RPM, then it slows down a bit pass 55-60 (overdrive gear). There's more resale value in an auto too, i think.

Yeah, I think I drive it pretty much the same way, too. My Blitz intake loves to get pushed hard tho...and yeah, it's not good for the gas mileage. I get shifts around 3600-4000 when I floor it and it shifts pretty nice and smooth regularly at about 2700-3000 with normal driving which i think is pretty zippy...

I think it starts to lose it in 4th gear tho. :?

if you sit in traffic everyday and want to constantly shift, then get a manual. if you want to be able to relax while you drive, get an auto.

I went from a 375hp civic si and the power of an sr20det powered 240 to the box, and i have no problem at all knowing im slow, i know that i can be comfortable doing it. besides the box looks better poking down the road than it ever would trying to race another pos car. But i guess its all on personal preference, i love manual but no way would i bother with the hassle in the box.

I went from a 95 Mustang GT with a 5 speed to a 5 speed xB. I drove the automatic and it was fine I just liked the 5 spd better. I couldn't get rid of the Mustang though. Sometimes I feel the need, the need for speed! And the Mustang was my dream car...you know, they don't make them like they used to! But the xB is the coolest bestest nicest car in the whole world and my new baby.

Of course you could add either a supercharger or a turbo kit to the auto xb, its the same engine as the manual, only difference being the tranny and gearing. You wont see the same gains as the manuals do in horsepower, as your engine will never shift as high as a manual can, but you still will see a significant difference and it will be felt.

I'm actually considering doing a turbo kit in the near future, just for personal kicks, not really to go much faster but just to have it there.

First of all you have to remember that this is a XB, not a Skyline GTR. You won't be burning rubber from a stoplight without some serious mods and money. Enjoy the XB for what it is... a comfortable cruiser that gets great gas mileage. Get the automatic, sit back relax and enjoy the ride. If you can afford it, get a little 5 speed car on the side to indulge your NFS 87-91 mustang gts are a steal right now. Good Luck :D [/u]
