Default Can I cut the wires for the side mirrors?

I'm removing the stock side mirrors and am replacing them with some chrome peep mirrors. Can I just cut the wires that lead to the mirror or will that blow the circuit or screw up something. Electrical person I am NOT! I'm working on it now, so would certainly appreciate some answers. Breezer

i think they have connectors inside the door that you can unclip. may save a bit of time for you if you ever want to go back to stock...

Thanks for your reply. I don't want to take off the door panel because I'm scared I'll screw up some of the electrical stuff in it. I'm modding this xb to be a Woody Wagon, so I know I won't go back to the stock. I don't mind cutting the wires, I wanted to make sure I would not short circuit the car or catch a 12 volt shock.

Better to just unplug like in the DIY I sent you, but if you need to cut them, just make sure to tape or cap off each wire, so they can't cause any problems, but better to unplug

Thank you again. Yes, I agree it is better to unplug, but after removing the mirror unit there was not a plug. Evidently the previous owner straight wired it.
No wonder I couldn't find the plug! Do I need to take the neg. off the battery before cutting? Breezer

Today I finally realized there are not 2 plugs for the mirrors. Duh! (I've only owned the car 3 wks. so go easy on me.) I thought there was another plug behind the actual glass part of the mirror. I took off the door panels, unplugged the lights, and all is happy in the neighborhood. Simple process. Below is a pic for all the future newbies. Thanks for all of your replies, Breezer

First of all, this 34pc.dash kit is one of the nicest ones I've seen. The color is Light Burl Wood, and it is made by REMIN. I bought it from ebay; it was on sale too. It has 34 pcs. and it's a lotta bang for your buck. Cost me $105.00 plus the shipping. They have several colors, carbon, wood, chrome, etc. It's a 3M peel/stick deal, and it came with 3 tubes of activator, but I didn't use it. The activator is some strong smelling toxic stuff, and it's not really necessary. Putting the kit on was easy, just tedious. The main thing to remember is the clean the area good with rubbing alcohol. Here's the link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=251051982497
CARID has the same kits by REMIN, and cost $140.00 for the 33pc. kit. They are basically the same kit, but I can't speak for CARID since I haven't seen it in person. CARID will give you a 25% discount if you have the code, which makes those kits $105.00; so it's a toss up of where you buy it.
I'm making a Woody Wagon out of the XB, so I picked the light color because it was the closest one the light color of my woody kit trim. It also matches my surfboard.
Here are some pics:

I've ordered the mirrors, but they haven't arrived yet. I got the Maltese Cross chrome ones since the Surfers Cross is the Maltese cross. I painted the surfboard to look like wood; it was originally fiberglass. Below are some before/after pics of the board.

Here's a few progress pics: #1 Since the woody wagon is named the 'Salty Dawg,' I thought a 'dawg' would be appropriate for the hood ornament. I'm looking into getting him some sunglasses! #2 &#3 Some pics of the woody dash kit I installed last week. This is a FUN project! Breezer

If youd like, I can explain how I filled the area where the mirror was mounted. Not at home right now, but I can post some pics later... Let me know...

Hey DATXB, Yes, I'd appreciate it if you would explain how you filed in the area and what materials you used. Some close up pics would be nice too. Thanks, Breezer

BTW, I've got the red steel wheels on my BOP too.

Ok, as soon as I get home, I'll do that. The black filler is actually the inside trim piece that covers the mirror screws. I used the passenger side one for the driver door and the driver door trim piece for the outside passenger side. They needed a little trimming and then sucurd with black rtv sealant and a screw or two. I'll send some pics for you...

Oh, man are you smart; that is a great idea. I look forward to hearing/seeing how you did it because yours looks professionally done. Breezer

@Breezer, here are the up close pics. trim the covers so they fit nice. the mirror screw holes line up close so you can screw them in for extra support from the inside. If they don't line up, drill your own. Check your local wrecking yard for some new covers for the interior. Good Luck!!

I'd like to see the car when your done with the wheels and mirror!!

Thanks for posting those pics. That gives me a point of reference before I go into surgery on these! LOL I wish I could find another set of these triangles, but I live in a po-dunk town and we don't even have a junk yard in this area.
