It's too hard to prove manufacturing defect caused cracks on the windshield. I still have my TOYOTA stamped windshield albeit with several chips cracks and stars. But this is through 2+ years of driving on questionable roads. Cracks caused by road conditions such as debris is not covered under warranty. This warranty limitation is common amongst all manufacturers.

I mentioned "TOYOTA stamped" windshield. If your original TOYOTA stamped windshield was replaced several times by non-TOYOTA stamped, then their is no manufacturing defect. The TOYOTA stamped windshields are rather expensive (made in Japan). Most just replace with another brand like PPG or other US-windshield manufacturers. The design of the windshield (almost vertical) and vehicle shape is mainly the culprit. I also see FJ Cruisers, Hummers, Land Rovers, and GL500 and other vehicles with near flat windshields with similar issues.

If a suit does go to fruition, I would advised to gather as many TOYOTA stamped windshield lot numbers with similar issues. If you can find that a particular lot (s) of TOYOTA stamped windshield have this occurance then you might get some information whether your xB was installed with defective windshields.
I agree.

15 months and not a single crack/star/chip on my glass. Of course I allow a 5 second buffer between myself and the car in front of me, and I dont follow trucks of any type.

Jeeps have been on the market for how long ... 30 years? They have upright windows that are prone to rock chips too. IT'S PART OF DRIVING A BOX! Next time buy an aerodynamically-shaped car if that's your concern.
Have any of you geniouses actually called your insurance companies? --Glass is usually covered with little or no deductable! Morons.

That is from the first message of this thread. That message was also posted to the following two other forums, but is being removed from those forums for the reasons noted:

TundraSolutions Scion forum, FAQs:
"No threads or posts containing discussions regarding legal action against any company or discussions of "lemon laws" may be posted. These threads or posts will be removed without notice."
http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...new_faq_item_3

Edmunds Town Talk Scion forum, moderator message:
"... the forums cannot be used to solicit participants in a legal action, so I've had to remove the postings that were taking us down that road."
http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com

That leaves ScionLife as the only forum where the information can still be found.

In the absence of a shop receipt, any evidence of payment such as a cancelled check, charge card ticket, or even charge card statement should do.

had my box for over a year and no windshield cracks yet...yes I have herd the rocks hit it....no design flaw here....my old tacoma had a cracked windshield once...must of been a design flaw as well.....oh and my wifes Murano had a cracked windshield once when we lived in Georgia...must of been another design flaw........couldn't be a rock hitting glass had somehting to do with it.....has to be the cars fault...

just another in a long line of Americans crying over something and wanting to blame someone else for there misfortunes..S^!t happens..why not try suing God next for making rocks? or for making glass breakable?!?!

.rocks hit windshields, windshields crack. end of story

If your insurance doesn't cover it....get better insurance....if you think it's a "design flaw" then sell you car and get something else...just remember that same "design flaw" was what made you buy it

The rest of the story is that windshields were cracking when the car was washed or while in the garage overnight. Some cars went through several windshields. Hundreds of cases of windshield cracks were documented to make a class action, where the cause was not rock strikes, but the mounting of the windshield and the transfer of forces to it from the body. Honda settled a class action on the Element windshield a few years ago, and now Toyota has done it for the same reasons on the xB.

I received a letter today from a settlement administrator regarding the windshield on 2006 Scion XB. It appears the settlement covers ONLY 2006 models. Go to www . xbwindshieldsettlement (dot)com for info. Apparently if the windshield is cracked, Toyota will replace it. If you've had one replaced you can be reimbursed with proper documentation.

Again, from what I've read, it only covers 2006 model year.

Take care,
Glen

I have a 2006 xB in KY, bought new, never had a crack. In October 2006 I heard Fazio | Micheletti LLP had succeeded in a class action suit against Honda over the Element windshields. I sent them an email saying the xB had the same problem and I hoped there would be class action suit against Toyota. They sent me a reply, saying they were already aware of the xB problem, were looking for enough evidence to make a case, and would call me to discuss what I had heard on this forum. Apparently it was mainly 2006 owners who sent them documentation of the problem, thus the case could not be made for the previous years, so the settlement was limited to 2006. I am glad to see the suit was successful. It took 3-1/2 years.

I got this in the mail as well. I had to replace my windshield just because i was turning a sharp corner and it cracked 22inches. I ended up buying a high quality windshield and no problems so far. I will def go back to the shop and see if he still has my record of going. cause I only found the ticket for the windshield crack repair not the windshield replacement one

I have 415K milkes on my XB. The windshield only cracked once, because I never replaced it. Works just as good with a crack.

Default windshield

I received the same letter. My 06 xB has over 127k. The WS cracked just sitting in the parking lot, about 2 years ago. I've accumulated a few extra chips since then. Was going to leave it as is, since the glass hasn't caved in. But, you can bet'cha booties I'll be lining up for this freebie!

Now if I can only bring myself to spring for the fog light kit, and fill in that hole where the spacer fell out
