Default Clutch Slip/Early Wear

I have 28,000 miles on my xB and noticed that the clutch seemed to be slipping. I brought it into the dealer today, and they concluded that indeed the clutch was slipping, but they have denied me warranty coverage.

Before I call Toyota, I wanted to see how many people had issues with their clutch since they've owned the car. My car rarely saw RPM higher than 4,500, but when downwhifting I recently noticed the problem. The Toyota tech said he could make it slip in every gear. However, when it came down to it, Toyota denied warranty coverage.

It should be known that I've been driving nothing but manual transmissons since 1994 and have only had to replace a clutch once at 90,000 miles. Our Civic has 108,000 miles on the original clutch and it holds fine.

If you could answer this poll and respond with your milage as well, that'd be great. I'd love to hear about any xB-related clutch replacement and warranty stories, too.

This item (clutch disk) is considered a "wear and tear" item. At the dealership I work at, we replace the clutch once, under the basic, factory warranty. NOT ALL dealerships will do this...
To answer your question, I have about 22K miles and no slippage yet...

Although I understand that a clutch is a wear-and-tear item, it shouldn't wear out this quickly -- especially the way I drive it (e.g. not agressively).

yeah xb's with their extra weight and aggressive gearing are a bad match for the leftover echo clutch disc ( but more importantly pressure plate)

if you kinda pop the clutch as if trying to break traction aka skreech tires while shifting into second and the rpm goes up but your tires don't lose traction it's gone. it'll start slipping only when cold then get worse and worse as time passes.

this post is my 10,000th post!!!!

I am THE posting king of scionlife. yay!!!!!!

or something like that. ha

yes... let me pull one off of my clutch tree i have growing here and grab $1200 off the money tree thats right next to it. its as easy as 1 - 2 - 3! lmao j/k

clutches are very expensive (the labor not the actual part as always). being that i purchased the car for reliability purposes, which means more than just starting when i turn the key, replacing the clutch at 12k miles is not good for me and fails the higher expectations i had of this vehicle. selling the xa and picking up my kia from maryland dosent sound like a bad plan. never had any problems out of it and my parents bought it off of the showroom floor in 98. no rods shooting through the oilpan, no clutch slip, no radio automatically switching channels when its below 36 degrees in the cab, just a simple city runabout 4x4

umm labor should be 450.00 at most. a clutch kit is 450 at most. i got a SPEC stage 2+ for 349 and then got it installed at my buddies shop for 225. he'd normally charge 350 .

same concept. takes out flex . makes a more direct pedal to clutch engagement and disengagement.

ha ha . no instructions other than "use clutch alignment tool # xx " and then some torque specs for the pressure plate.
