Cruise Control - spoke with Scion

Cruise Control - spoke with Scion
This is just an offshoot of an earlier topic - basically, I asked if Scion offered factory cruise anywhere at all and I got this response:
Thank you for contacting Scion.
We appreciate the opportunity to address your inquiry.
Scion does not offer Cruise Control as a Scion approved accessory. Some regions, which are independently owned distributors of Scion offer an aftermarket accessory that is installed at the dealership but Scion does not recommend the installation of this component as this would be considered a modification.
Your Scion should not be modified with non-genuine Scion products. Modification with such products could affect your vehicle's performance, safety or durability, and may even violate governmental regulations. Also remember that any damage or performance problems resulting from modifications may not be covered under warranty.
That's fairly disappointing.

As you probably know by now, 100's of owners (myself included) on this forum have the Rostra Cruise Control - dealer installed. I think a dealer would be hard-pressed to void any part of the power train warranty due to equipment they installed.

Oh no! You can buy non-genuine Scion products? What is this world coming to?! Just call to the various scion dealerships (not email) and see who has one to offer installed/delivered with warranty coverage. When you find one, ask them who installs it, the service center or if it's outside of the dealership.

I agree that a dealer couldn't void the warranty on a car in which they installed aftermarket parts.
But what's to stop a different dealer from not honoring the warranty on, say, your fuel pump or your transmission, if there was an aftermarket CC installed?
What if you're on a road trip or move away from the region where you bought your car?

You realize, of course, that the following is the standard boilerplate answer Scion provides any time you ask about ANY non-Scion part - even if it is as simple as a Trico windshield wiper blade...
Most any manufacturer will respond in the same manner.
Keep in mind that Scion is ONLY addressing the *Scion* warranty, not the *dealer* or *aftermarket manufacturer* warranty. My dealer provides a warranty on all work they do, and most part manufacturers provide a warranty for their parts.
They ARE, however, separate from the warranty from *Scion* which only warrants that the car was put together correctly with good quality parts when it left the factory, and Scion approved accessories installed by qualified installers...[/b]

Wait... (totally auto-ignorant here)... the fact that the dealer put cruise control on my box potentially voided my scion warranty? "IF" it causes some sort of malfunction somewhere else? That stinks. Wouldn't the dealer be liable for fixing any problems then?

The warranty is NOT void.
If a part failed because of the cruise control, they might not warranty that part. However, I'd have a hard time thinking of something the cruise control could screw up.
I also have the cruise control and can say with certainty that I am not at all concerened about warranty issues.

I wouldn't worry if you have a cruise control on your box or xA. As Tom stated, this is just their prefab response if anyone inquires about putting "aftermarket" parts on their Scion vehicle. You'd get the same response if you asked about leather, turbo, etc.
You are all just fine.....Rostra makes a great product and there is no reason to worry.

I can't find the exact page it is on, but on the Scion Corporate page, they have the results of a survey conducted throughout the United States. It was a random survey and included those that would be most marketable to the vehicles. This survey included things that people wanted the most in the vehicles and of those, they took about the 30 most desirable items, options, accessories or whathaveyou. This is why the cruise control was never installed in the vehicles. There were more people who wanted cup holders and storage over those who wanted cruise control, as it gets too difficult in traffic as many are exposed to every day(ie. big cities such as seattle, phoenix, l.a., detroit, san antonio, las vegas, and I could go on).
