Today is a sad day for me haha. For the first time since ive owned my scion the low fuel light came on and total messed up my streak of never letting the tank run low. I kept the tank higher then 1/4 since oct 05 and 24,400 miles. I can gaurantee this will never happen again haha. anyone else make it this long or longer?? this is a dumb thread but im wasted and felt like venting lol. One thing thatwill never change is the 93 octane. Every fill up has been 93... yay for me haha.

I only had my light come on when I first got my car...I drove away from the dealership and was just driving all over town, Showing off to friends and family. Compared to my truck I traded I thought I could drive forever....a few days later I see this little light...."Hmmm..What's that?" I only then realized I was almost out of gas...oops!...haven't seen it since. (I pay more attention to the fuel gauge now..lol)

the light is an indicator to get fuel. With 3 gallons left in the tank when I fill up, why would I fill up before.

I guess it's just a thing for some people, but I don't see much sense in putting in 1/2 tank every 3 days, instead of filling up once a week.

Is there a mod for making the light beep when it comes on? My VW would sound air raid alarms if it came on, now I never notice it. I just drive around in la la land until I see it. Then freak out because I never know how long its been on.

i drove a good 30 miles after the light came on in heavy nyc traffic and still had 2.8 gallons left in it.

btw you must be stoned putting in 93 octane in an NA xB. That cant be good for the engine. wouldnt that cause misfires or problems with timing?

Its actually good for your car to let the light come on dont go for long after that tho. Because you don't hold old fuel in the tank can clog filters and all that, and dont go to low cuz you'll burn our liquid cooled in tank pumps.

Also using 93 is pointless your gaining nothing from it but wasting mod money.

I know for a fact because FUEL is my JOB.

It's completely fine for the engine, if not better than 87. Some people claim to notice a power difference between 87 and 89, which is completely understandable. If the engine is about to ping (more common with lower octane) the ECU retards the timing. With a higher octane, pinging is less likely to happen, so no change to the timing = optimal timing, optimal power.

the BIG difference i noticed from always filling up with 93 then switching to 87 octane (thanks to tom), was a 12 mpg difference! i was only getting 20 mpg on premium fuel. I now get 40 mpg on the 87 octane fuel. So i save a lot of money and only fill up once a month. Don't use 93 unless your driving a V8 or something near that. It's a total waste of money. And no, i have never let it go under 1/4 tank.

the average cost of gas since you bought it is probably say i dunno $3/gallon for premium?

thats $2439 for premium.

when you could/should have been using 87 octane which would have been roughly .20 cheaper. so thats $2276.

you wasted $163! could have got your windows tinted or something with that money.

I have had my light come on a few times but the last time it happened
the needle was just touching the underside of the "E" line.
I filled the tank and it took exactly 10 gallons.
How big are our tanks? 11 gallons?
My worst mileage was 24.5 and that was driving with a heavy foot.
I am averaging about 27.6 with just under 20k

11.9 gallons and you nailed it - should be 2 gallons left when the light comes on. High octane burns a little slower soooooo you may end up burning the exhost valves and heating up the header more than when using regular. There is a lot of timing advance for 87 octane like typically 35 degrees at cruizing speeds - it can't advance much more than that for high test gas to burn properly.
