Does it take a long time to get up to freeway speeds?
I hear people on here saying that they are slow to gain speed but are they really? I will be traveling on the freeway to and home from work all the time. Is it a good freeway vehicle or am I going to be going 65 the whole time or can it get up to a cruising speed of 75-80

If I drove 65 on LA freeways I would be run off the road by little old ladys in 10 year old chevys. I regularly drive 75-80 in the middle lane. I recommend the stick over the auto unless you are going to be in a lot of stop and go traffic. The stick will give you better acceleration getting on the highway.

Bulldog, I just got my Salsa Red 2006.5 xB 5-speed Saturday (with 1 mile on the ODO, BTW) and I have NO trouble getting the boX up to freeway speed. I've driven it a lot since I got the car and all the talk about it being slow is a bit over the top IMHO. I know there is a sliding scale of what people consider fast, but the xB is more than adequate. It's not going to win any races (unless it's against another xB maybe ) but for commuting it's fine.
Also, does the car you drove have radio controls on the steering wheel?

mine's completely stock, and a 5 speed.
I have absolutly no problem merging, accelerating, or keeping pace on the freeways. I'm actually usually one of the faster cars... I have also not had a problem cruising between 85 and 90 for long periods of time. Even hit 3 digits once or twice...
But I drive it like I drive all of my cars... Like a rented mule. I hit the rev limiter once a week, and am constantly over 4500rpm. the car just feels like it 'wants' to be revved up...

i also have a stock 5 speed. no problem with acceleration, etc. i drive her like a sports car and she reacts that way. most of my freeway driving is at 80, which i don't have to push for, she just seems to want that speed. i used to drive a camaro, which would have left the xBox in the dust, but for a non-high performance vehicle, she does just fine.
im planning on eventually adding some performance mods, tho im not really sure how big a difference they will make.

LOL @ the question. I think if it did take a significant time to reach highway speed, the car would not be approved for US roads in the first place. The HP the box has is perfect for it's size. It's not like it weights 3 tons and has 100 horse. How unsafe would it be on the highways if you couldn't get to highway speeds fast enough?
You're buying a car - not a turtle!

I get the freeway speeds real fast. Since it is 70 miles just to get to work, my cruising speed is usually 80, and the mountains (nice steep ones) hardly slow me down. My RS 2 is a stock automatic.
