hows the superchager treating you? which one did you get? i want to get one soon.

i do have a problem merging sometimes at highway speeds. i do have a 4spd though. but for the most part, the fact that the xB only has 103hp is not that much of an issue...

My 5 speed merges nicely, but you do need to pay attention. It's not the kind of car where you can diddle around until you're running out of acceleration lane, then mash the gas to quicly gain 20 mph... huh-uhh...

Keep the revs up in the power band when merging, maybe downshift occasionally to 4th to pass really slow vehicles or pulling long hard grades.... run midgrade gas to get the best out of it...

The little motors are highly tuned and fun to drive- they want to run... don't expect any miracles from aftermarket performance parts.

I too take the highway daily, no problems with merging at all.

I also have a stock '06 5spd. Considering where the rpms are at highway speed, I haven't even had to downshift yet to pass and all I do is highway driving.

We have an auto in our xB, and have no problems on the highway. Obviously, it doesn't accelerate like my 02 Maxima, but it gets up to, and holds, highway speeds just fine

it's like pretty much the fastest vehicle on the planet. Remember, xB's can fly! ;)

i think its my 18's that are making it harder for me to get going when I merge. oh well, sometimes you trade functionality for looks...

i think that my xb has really poor pickup, it takes a little pushing to get up to higher speeds but once it's up there, it goes no problem!! what can you expect though, it's a cheap car made to just be driving to and from whereever and it has a small enigine, its not a racecar! you'd probably have to modify it to get better pickup. i don't care though, i love my green box!!

The supercharger works great and is what all of the scions should have. It great to be able to keep up with the rest of the flow of traffic, even the faster cars. I keep the controls set at med. and it only kicks in at half pedal. You can still cruise at 70+ without the sc even being on and just apply a little more pedal, and it kicks in to jump to a higher speed quikly or pass someone with ease.

No problems at all, in fact, I have more issues with going too fast. My auto Box loves to cruise at 80. You can't base it on HP alone, use a power to weight ratio for a better gauge...

Not to get off-topic, but that's a waste of money in these cars. Doesn't give more power or any benefit unless you're getting pre-ignition, then you've probably got other issues anyway.

Pay attention to TheScionicMan. He knows whereof you speak.. You ONLY need higher octane if the manufacturer calls for it. Using mid grade or premium in an xB is a waste of $1.00/tank

I hit the overdrive-off button before executing a merge in my stock auto xB. Eliminates the downshift from autodrive, which can seem like it takes forever when you're in a tight spot.

You're half right- page 124 of my 2006 owners' manual calls for 87 octane fuel.... that's midgrade around here, with regular being 85 octane...

Sure, it'll run on regular- the ECU simply backs off on the ignition timing in response to the knock sensor, and you get a little less power... At 10.5:1, these are relatively high compression engines by modern standards. They're built to run on the higher grade of fuel sold in Japan... Japanese "regular" being 87 octane, as I understand it...

Stock '06 5 speed. My favorite 2 times of the day are when I get to merge onto the highway. Keep it in 3rd or 4th until you get on and then slip it into 5th. NO problems keeping up with traffic. In fact, it's traffic that usually has touble keeping up with me. I drive between 70 and 80 to and from work.

Yoiks! I'll have to double check next time we fill up. IIRC, we run 87, 89, 93, but I honestly haven't paid close attention lately.

Mrs. Scion is already slightly annoyed that my Maxima is supposed to use premium. Hope we don't need to bump up to mid-grade for the box. It would only be $1.00 to $1.50 per fillup, but it's the principle of the thing!

This reminds me of going to the movies and they don't have a "small" sized soda. "Medium" is the small.

87 octane is what you want. 85 is a fairly new grade and not available in many places. It's an ethanol blend, IIRC. Personally I'd try the 85 and see how it runs if i had the option
