Default Help! I left my windows down and it rained last night!

I've never done this, and I'm embarassed to say it, but I did last night. My windows were down 6-8 inches, and I woke up this morning when I realized it was raining. Not hard, mind you, but with big drops. Lucky for me it had just started. I ran outside (in my pj's!) and rolled up the windows. Then I spent a few minutes wiping down as much of the wet surfaces as possible. I got all the plastic dry with some napkins I had in the car (for my constant allergies), but I am worried about the fabric. The fabric on the doors got wet enough I was able to press some water out into the napkins. The edges of the seats also got a little wet, but not squishy. The carpet got damp. I turned on the A/C on the way to work today (a 40 minute ride), and I will have it on on the way home tonight. Do I need to worry about mold or mildew or rot? Is there anything else I can do on a rainy day to dry out the inside, besides running the A/C? Any information for a new person will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The good thing about rain water is that it is soft water without any minerals in it. I don't think you will have any problem. There has been several posts about rust. I would do a search for them and check out the area behind your door molding.

I checked that area last week, after reading the posts. No rust there!

It will dry out in a few days of heat. Leave the windows cracked to let the moisture out. It will be OK. Promise!

Rent or buy a steam vac to possibly suck out the excess water. Some have a small upolstery wand. Or maybe you could use a shop vac. Have you tried using your heater to increase the vaporization in the car. Good Luck

I drove to work yesterday with the heater on and the A/C also on. Boy, it was hot and dry in there! I drove home last night like that, too. When it was time for me to go to work this afternoon, I checked the interior, after x-ray bravo had sat in the sun all morning. Everything seemed dry. Lesson learned, no leaving windows down again! Thanks for your suggestions!

x-ray....you might want to look at some vent visors...

If you do it again, give me a holler, I have a heat gun you might want to (carefully) use.....

i have the vent visors on my toaster and i love them. i hve the ones that go inside the window frame.

obviously the smartest thing to do would be to always close your windows, but i know sometimes i think i'm running in the house for a few minutes, and then at 11pm, i remember my windows are still open.

Dude, it's just water. What's the big deal.

Now if it was puke or a melted ice cream cone that would be a different story.

In a low humidity state, I can see that question, but here in the south, people know what the big deal is.. get into the car and your glasses fog up....

Your car will be fine. Let it out in the sun for a whole day with the windows open a little bit. It happened on one of our demo cars where there was an inch of water the next day

Yeah, it can be bad. I used to live in Michigan.
Happy to hear that it dried up allright for you. Best thing if this happens in a really humid area, is to get it dry with the a/c, then spray some lysol disinfectant on it.
If you notice and mildew smell...use the lysol. Febreeze knocks out the smell for a little while, but the lysol will kill the mildew.

The constant humidity was what I was worried about. Around here, it takes a puddle DAYS to dry sometimes. But the A/C worked wonders inside the car. I'm not leaving the windows open unattended anymore. The way it rains here with little to no warning, it's dangerous to leave the windows down without watching the sky. And since I sleep during the day, I have my house windows covered, so I can't just go look out the window.

I love this car. It's my first new one, and I want to take care of it. There's no eating or drinking in there. And if you feel sick, you're walking! Manatee, I'll look into the vent visors. Does it help with the wind buffetting when my windows are open? I love to drive with the windows open.

No, the buffetting is just something you get to live with...just roll all 4 down and enjoy the ride! I could cruise all day with the windows open...
