i have an 04 auto. sometimes mine will idle at 2k for about 10 seconds when i first start it up and then lower to about 1200-1300. its not a problem from what i've been told

Yup, this is the reason. A lot of cars do this actually...for the same reason. And yes, it's in the manual.
