Robert, the prototypes I have seen are pink barbie doll color. That looks like the orange K-Mart event only hand out, it was never packaged. Don't now why its got a prototype ink mark?

Hey Steve!

The orange is a pre-production prototype (non-production issue) for the original red X-Raycers. This was the made prior to the original release of the red/PR5 in 2005. I have only heard of one other f/s in the 5 years that I have been looking. Not sure of the total number in the wild.

This orange was just purchased off TTP from a long time seller who originally had two. One sold years ago and this one just came up.

The KMart exclusive was blue/PR5 (production issue), not orange. It is not rare as it was mass produced.

Yes, many prototypes have "barbie" colored bodies/interiors and/or raw Zamac bodies. I have one of four of the barbie pink bodied ones out there in the wild. The pic you show is of drdetroit45/Marshall's collection (which I might have sent you!) and shows some VVHTF xBs. I especially like the barbie with the blue wheels!

My barbie was purchased from Marshall, which he bought from prototype dealer Danny Overy. Check out the "no text" base! Marshall has the two barbies pictured and there is one other that someone he knows has for a total of four! Only issue with mine is the busted off roll cage. You can still see a piece of pink plastic that remains.

I would like to eventually get that blue wheeled one...it is AWESOME!

Check out my xB toys! >>Scion xB Toy Collection Link<<

Robert I understood the orange ones were never packaged and were hand outs at a hotwheels/Kmart event around the country. You had to attend to get one. Never heard they were proto-types, My orange one looks exactly the same but has no markings.
I understand the blue one was only sold a Kmart, I bought this orange one a few years ago off e-bay after missing a couple of times so it seems there may have been more.

^^Could very well be, Steve!

Going by what I have heard and what I have been told. I am not 100% sure what its exact origins are, but I know I needed one!

Maybe some one from Mattel will chime in over @hwc.
