Default How can i safely jack up the xB and use stands?

I guess the problem might be that i have the wrong jack and jack stands. From what i know and have read in the repair manual of the xB. It's just like my echo on how you jack it up. Like the sh1tty scissor jack toyota gives you, it hooks into that "rail" that runs along the sides behind the sideskirts? (do xB's have this?)

I have a 2-1/4 ton Craftsman Floor Jack:

http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...Lift+Equipment

I don't have those stands, i have the ones below.

My jack stands are very similar to this (3 ton):

http://hectorshardware.com/jackstand.html

Bought them at advanced Auto Parts.

My craftsman jack doesnt have the notch in it to hook into that rail piece that runs along the sides of the car (it's on Echo's, not sure about xB's entirely). Basically i want to know what i need to do, so when i get my xB i can put my wheels on it. The railing on my echo is all bent up from using my jack, it doesnt hook into it so like the flat jack plate is pressing up againest like a 5mm thick piece of metal that is going down towards the ground like this: \|||||||||||||||/ along the sides of the car. Thanks for the help, sorry if there is another post, i tried to search but "jack" didn't really give me what i wanted to find lol.

I am planning on jacking my car up this weekend to rotate my tires. If I can remember I will take pictures of how I typically jack my box up. I also have a craftsman 2 1/2 or 3 ton (Can't remember) Jack and craftsman jack stands.

use the craftsman jack on the body seam like you would with a stock jack. if you jack up from the "frame rails' you will bend them. trust this. lame. i love my 1987 toyota supra scissor jack. no other jack goes low enough to fit under my car. as far as jack stand points i use the rear swing arm to body/frame poing and up front i use this little bolt that is at a point of teh crossmember / subframe.

agreed; but yea; the xb stock lift points are terrible; i used a piece of dense wood between the jack to let the frame rail mash into it, rather than the jack mashing the little body seam.

Super low floor jack and a couple jack stands with sufficient amounts of wood between them and the "frame rails" works fine for me.

are these frame rails you guys talk about the box shaped thing that runs along the sides? The "rail" i was talking about was the one thats very skinny, not like a 1"x1" box. My echo has both, the skinny rail is right on the outside behind where the skirt would be on the xB. The box "Rail" is about 5-6" behind that close towards the middle of the underbody.

I am talking about the rail that runs the length of the car, about 6" in from the skirts. It is about 1" x 1"

sweet! I used my jack on that with it's "circular" plate, sometimes it would get uneven load and kinda bend that rail up, and rip off some of that paint stuff on it. I'm hoping to xB's is more sturdy or something. You put a piece of wood between the jack and the rail? What if the wood broke or slid out etc.? I'm guess the weight keeps it from doing that...

Also, do i put the stands on this rail? The prob with my echo is i could never lift it high enough. I guess i would get nervous, but i also think my jack stands are way to friggin tall. It would seem like the car was going to roll over when i got close to getting it that high, so i would use the stands on that cheesy rail instead.

DO NOT LIFT on that pseudo frame rail. it is cheap and bends and gets messed up. jack up the car from the body seam. it should not bend or get mashed up unless you are being careless and dumb.

ok got that part, should i use wood between my jack and the seam? Also between jack stands? My stands i have, have a huge V shape, that boxy seem doesn't seem to fit. I guess i should get stands with more of a U shape?

you dont need wood. good luck getting wood to fit. unless u have an ultra low profile jack. you shouldnt need wood between the jackstands i've never used it . u shaped stands are slightly better.

i just don't think my stands would be very stable, hopefully i can jack the xb high enough to sit it on my stands. When i jack up one side of my echo from that seam, it lifts up the whole side, both wheels. I was all the way up towards the front as possible on the seam, so it made me nervous, can i jack the xB up from the back as weel?

you can jack up the xB from the rear. I cant. lol since i cut that portion out in anticipation of my center exhaust. lol. only prob with rear jack point is that it is set up higher so stock jacks are pretty useless there.

Sorry but I need some pics. I tried to jack my car up today and failed. Granted it's a xA but it should be similar to the xB. I had the jack on the 1" X 1" "frame" rail it bent a little and some of the underbody coating came off. I placed a thin piece of wood well particle board on the saddle of the jack. Do I need to say what happened? Yes, it broke and the jack shifted a bit, no major damage. I called it a day and will have to go to HD to get a scrap piece of 2X4 to put on the jack.

jack it up by the body seam. just be gentle with it and jack from the portions marked for the stock jack. that's how i raised my buddies xA while i removed his body kit and all other parts.

By body seam do you mean the rail I was talking about ? Or do your mean the thin lip next to the side skirt? Thanks for the help.

thin lip next to skirt. it is actualyl stronger than the lil 1 inch wide frame thing. if you really wanna be the safest easiest least possibility of messing somethign up use a small piece of wood with a channel cut into it between the thin body seam and the jack saddle.
