How many were made?

Interesting figures, especially since both sets seem to have come from the manufacturer.
It would be interesting to see how the differences are explained...

I think it's just who you ask.
This may be a question like "How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsy Roll, The world may never know"?

I noticed one thing-it states sales figures in my post-maybe there were almost 10,000 that were either crashed (test purposes) given away to employees or special promotions or dealers or companies-something where they were not sold. It would show up on the assembly and painting charts because they were made but not on the sales charts because they were promo'd away.
Just a theory

That could be, I suppose, and another difference is that your listing shows quantities by year sold, and mine shows quantities by model year.
If I am correct in my memory of events, there were still some being sold off dealer lots in 2007...

hey tomas, remember that those chevys ('55, '56, & '57's) were called the shoeBOX's? i find that kinda funny. anyway, the point i was trying to make was this; i gave away alot of cars that then became rare and worth $. i'm hangin' on to my little box. it has to be, overall, the funnest car i have owned and often compare it to my motorcycle as far as fun factor goes. not counting acceleration, of course... that i compare to a 1961 1200cc beetle. ..it is faster than my 1965 1500 VW bus was though.

I was told those are worldwide-but the 1st gen was never officially sold in Europe-which makes it even more rare

The xB Classic was a USA ONLY product, as were all Scions - never sold legitimately anywhere else. (Similar vehicles in rest of world were all branded Toyota bB.)
#29
I heard that Australia had some that were actually Scions as well as Toyotas-could be rebadged that someone got wrong though.

The original Scion xB were USA only, Scion is a USA only marque, all Scions are left-hand-drive (the Toyota bBs of the same vintage were all right-hand-drive) and Australia is a right-hand-drive country.
If there are "Scions" in Australia, they are likely rebadged wrong-side-drive Toyota bBs (just as there are many left hand Scion xBs in the US rebadged as fake bBs).
Scion is not a world wide brand - HQ is in Torrance, CA.

What about all the ones in Guam and other non usa places?
#32
Guam is a US Territory. Our military (and others) often import US market vehicles to the rock.)
Canada is not a part of the US, but there are Scion xB Classics there, too. All the Scion xBs in Canada were purchased in the United States and then transported across the border. None were sold new in Canada, in fact the Scion xB Classic doesn't even meet Canadian vehicle standards, and must be modified to meet those requirements to be licensed there.
I even know of Scions in Europe, taken there by US military members, but Scions have never been sold new for delivery in Europe.
I personally own a number of products not legitimately (or even legally for some) available in the United States. That does not mean that someone in the US sold me those products new here. It means that I in one way or another managed to import them personally.
Scion is a US only marque.

Is there a way to tell what number in the production line your car is? I was the first person to buy an xB out of my dealers showroom (or so the salesman said). Just curious?
#34
Well, the last 6 digits of the VIN are given to cars in ascending order on each factory production line, and are actually their serial number.
From what information I have from looking at TSBs, the xBs seem to have come from two different plants (TMC1 and TMC2). I do not know if those are two plants at Takaoka or if only one of those is at Takaoka.
The oldest S/N I see is something in the 142XXX range from TMC1 and in the 013XXX range from TMC2. The seventh digit from the right end of the VIN is "0" for TMC1 and "4" for TMC2.
My '05 xB, for example is from the TMC1 plant and is in the 193XXX range (last seven digits are "0193XXX"). Vanilla was built in October of '04.
The only way, probably, to find out the start numbers for the two plants would be directly from Scion...

Woo! 1 of 2500 original 2004 camo green boxes rolling around. They should've kept producing them, who ever thought the xB2 was a good idea should've been canned.

I would be annoyed to be beside a 2009 Gen1 one with a 1.8L turbo option from the factory or something.

My only worry is that someday someone will break Vanilla and there is NOTHING available on the market to replace her...
