I'd do it if the price was right.

A $55K conversion cost is too rich for me, but I have to agree with the company that the xB's design is ideal for use. An electric box for the city makes a WHOLE lot of sense.

Default Tom Hanks did it!

If everyone's good time friend Tom Hanks did it, it has to be cool!

But seriously, if it was maybe the cost was half that, I would put a deposit and my xB down today.

If I wasnt so lazy I would do the math to figure out how many miles you would need to drive before recouping the cost of the conversion in savings from fuel. But I am that lazy, so I'm just going to guess.

Um... Lets say 5 years worth of driving, that prolly about right. Thats totally worth it.

Actually, my life expectancy isn't long enough to reach the break-even point for the conversion, even if fuel were $5 a gallon...

I would pay more on the front end, even if it were not economically sensible for me to do so.

You listening Toyota? I will do this... $55,000 is a bit much, but I would pay a premium.

If Toyota were to bring in a "Prius" in an xB Classic body, I'd have to look at it VERY hard - it would be extremely tempting.

This "plug-in electric car" isn't really a "hybrid", but a full electric. That severely limits it's use on US freeways - heck, it would turn a trip from my state's largest to second largest city into a two day marathon because of it's range limitations.

Having a true hybrid (gas/electric) that could also charge from an outlet would be even better, but I would settle for a "Prius xB."

Hybrids are "tempting" However, most people do not take into account the short life expectancy of a hybrid, nor the environmental impact of the batteries. They converted the total cost of energy of the vehicle to dollars per mile and the Prius was $3.25 per mile over it's 100,000 mile life expectancy.

A Hummer was $1.95 per mile over it's 300,000 mile life expectancy.

That means that the Prius is not really a good steward of energy by the time you include the factors of production.

Our xB's were a small $0.48 per mile. I would think that once you convert our boxes and add the factors of production, our box would be in the same situation as the Prius.

If you happen to get 300,000 miles out of a Hummer, I will personally service you in any manner you deem necessary over its range of life. I think that's a pretty good wager on my part.

$55,000.....thats insane....You can buy a PRIUS, make that 2 PRIUSSSSS for that price. Its a nice well done conversion, but econimically just not priced for the general public.
