Tom Hanks did it!
If everyone's good time friend Tom Hanks did it, it has to be cool!
But seriously, if it was maybe the cost was half that, I would put a deposit and my xB down today.
If I wasnt so lazy I would do the math to figure out how many miles you would need to drive before recouping the cost of the conversion in savings from fuel. But I am that lazy, so I'm just going to guess.
Um... Lets say 5 years worth of driving, that prolly about right. Thats totally worth it.

If Toyota were to bring in a "Prius" in an xB Classic body, I'd have to look at it VERY hard - it would be extremely tempting.
This "plug-in electric car" isn't really a "hybrid", but a full electric. That severely limits it's use on US freeways - heck, it would turn a trip from my state's largest to second largest city into a two day marathon because of it's range limitations.
Having a true hybrid (gas/electric) that could also charge from an outlet would be even better, but I would settle for a "Prius xB."

Hybrids are "tempting" However, most people do not take into account the short life expectancy of a hybrid, nor the environmental impact of the batteries. They converted the total cost of energy of the vehicle to dollars per mile and the Prius was $3.25 per mile over it's 100,000 mile life expectancy.
A Hummer was $1.95 per mile over it's 300,000 mile life expectancy.
That means that the Prius is not really a good steward of energy by the time you include the factors of production.
Our xB's were a small $0.48 per mile. I would think that once you convert our boxes and add the factors of production, our box would be in the same situation as the Prius.

$55,000.....thats insane....You can buy a PRIUS, make that 2 PRIUSSSSS for that price. Its a nice well done conversion, but econimically just not priced for the general public.
