It's not just a game-- it's a game most effectively played with a spreadsheet and careful record keeping!

Yes, I consider myself an amateur hypermiler.
I post my readings on ecomodder.com.

But I tend to squeeze that extra drop in every time so its not that accurate. :/

I also consider myself a amateur hypermiler (not one who drinks as many Millers in one hour ). I especially like getting off the back of a semi-truck- about 1 car length back in a alternate lane (there is still benifit of less wind drag at that location).

I've got a good road trip at the end of July down to San Diego-comic con , so we'll see how well I do on my 850+ mile drive.

I'm mainly working on one aerodynamic mod on my car = could increase mpg by 1-3 easy. The Acetone thing.. in that last article stating 25-35% increase is false. At best 5-10% increase( so maybe a 1-3 mpg increase) is what I've noticed, and thats with adding it to a full tank (3oz of acetone) w/ Torco 3cc of synthetic 2-cycle oil for upper cylinder lube. My first full tank I added it back in early May = averaged 43 mpg , my second fill up I averaged 40 mpg. vs. 2-3 months previous averages were 36-38 mpg.

Default Which is better?

I drive the 710 freeway here in LA and if I go the speedlimit in the far right lanes I'm killing my car one pot hole at a time. So can an xB1 take that amount of abuse? She rides rough as it is.

thats also very dangerous because 1 car length away i doubt the driver can even see you. Also i doubt you would have the reaction time if the driver of that semi slammed on his brakes from 1 car length away.
A safe drive does 1 car length for every 10mph but no one really does that. i prob have 1 car length for every 20mph. but i try for 10mph

You misread-- one carlength back in the next lane is not tailgating. In fact, it's not even in a semi's blind spot. However, it's almost as effective as actually drafting. As long as one does this without holding up traffic, it's actually a pretty smart thing to do.

Excellent thread, keep experimenting until you find your "sweet spot" for fuel economy...this current tank im on ive been trying to find a semi-truck driving the speed limit that I can drive behind (not too close though), ill let you know the results.

To me it's not worth the paint and widshield damage.
I'll live with my 33-37 mpgs.

I'm half way through my current tank and im not too impressed with the "drafting" effect on my fuel economy...not to mention what bB said about all the debris that hits your car.

It's time for me to "back off varment", lol.

I must drive to hard in my xB, my last tank of town driving I got 29 mpg. But that was with 28 psi in my tires, I just pumped them up to 35 psi to see how much it will change.

Default 50.7 mpg average

My best was a daily average of 50.7. I do hypermiling and everything is stock on engine accept for the addition of a hho generator. I also have 40 psi in my tires.

I started Hypermiling almost 2 months ago and I have received great gas mileage by doing so.

One tank i was able to get a hair shy of 38mpg. That was just doing 55-60 on the free way and coasting to stop lights, and staying under 2k RPMs while driving in City.
