I only got 26mpg...Grrr

I get about 34 when I drive conservatively and mostly highway/interstate driving. I've never done much around town driving to get an idea of how much it would drop. What you are getting doesn't surprise me.

If you're cruising. Shift at 3k around town with partial throttle. Stay on the slow lane. Drive 65 mph and you should get the EPA estimates. I have time and time again. Leadfooting it yields me about 26 mpg

You can meet or beat the estimates with conservative driving under the correct conditions.
The above is true for every car on the market.

My car has 3400 miles on it. I consider it broken in. I get roughly 32 mpg with all my tanks of gas. The highest 35 " second tank"/ lowest 28" first tank"
I shift early - between 2 and 3 on the tach.
I use shell gas
First oil change i switched to full synthetic
Drive on the parkway 65-75 with some ac
Dropped in K&N Air filter
sometimes I will the car to go further on less gas. I dont think it actually helps, but I still try.

My first tanks were pretty low in upper 20's with auto and I was dissapointed because they were in town during the winter. ( I don't like the way it won't shift into high until it warms up -- I know how to drive a car. It seems harder on the car the way the set that because I have to get up to 3800 before it will shift and then it gives a hard shift.)
Since then I average right at 30.0 to about 35.0. I pull around 32 with 75 MPH, AC and city driving--what seems to help is some slower 55 driving for a few miles on the tank it seems to get like 36 so pulls the mileage up if I dipped down. I was disappiointed at first but found that it is doing about what it said it would even with
I would like to try other spark plugs, sythetic oil and something with i/h/e and see if there is any improvement beyond this. The city mileage is great. The highway isn't as good because of the aerodynamics.

For city driving, keep your foot off the gas if you know you are coming up to a stop. Try to coast (in gear) as much as possible.
When accelerating from a stop try not to push the pedal down any more than you will when you get up to speed.
Try running with the windows down and the AC off.

Stick or Auto?
I have gotten as high as 37 MPG but only with my AC off and driving no faster than 65 with mostly FWY miles. AC and city driving would drop it below 30 as I get a little over 30 driving fast on the FWY with AC. Check your air filter to make sure it is not dirty. If you have a chance take it on a trip to see if FWY mileage is better................

I, too, shift between 2 and 3 grand AND I skip 4th gear unless I am running up a larger hill.
31mpg first two tanks, 35 third tank (almost all highway miles) 32 fourth tank. AC on 75% of the time except for last tank.

To all new owner... welcome to the frustration has has been xB EPA MPG.
This is nothing new... it is however funny to note (if im not mistaken) from 2004 to 2006 the epa had lowered the mpg by 1 each year.
04 RS 1.0, 5spd, lowered, K&N drop in, exhaut.....and @ 55 mph and little AC can only manage 31 or so mpg. Average city/hwy I get 27-29.

I have gotten a high of 38 (traveling back from KC downhill with a 40 MPH tail wind) and as little as 28 go to KC with the same wind in the face.
AC was off, wintertime.
Also, check your tire pressure and make sure you are running the right pressure and aren't low, it is a major contributing factor to loss of mileage.
Also, you running an CAI?
I had to clean my filter as I ran some dirt road and clogged it up, that will drain it as well.

i just filled up this morning, and i recorded about 31 mpg.
i have an auto '04 BCP with AEM CAI, strup header, trd exhaust, mikochu grounding kit, lightened pulley, 18" TRDs .... i almost never run AC. I do mostly conservative local/suburban driving and occasional "spirited" driving, so it's somewhat expected.
if you are aggressively starting off the line every time, you will shoot your mpg to hell. i say go a tank conservatively (not quite granny mode but a relaxed pace) and see how that works out. By conservative i mean, when starting from a stop, don't let the revs go past 3.5 before it switches gear and keep the cruising at around 2.
if it's consistently around the 25-low 20's range, i'd say get it checked out.

i get about 29-30 with ac and lead footing, i shift normally around 5k. Car only has 1600 or so miles on it. Iduno how the hell you can shift at 2-3k, you obvisouly don't know how us CA people drive........
