Specs wouldn't mean much to me. I don't know much about shocks and struts. I was just wondering if anyone had tried both and noticed a difference in handling or comfort.

Chances are they will be valved very close to each other.

Lots of very dense, very good info here, and I don't see a single error, even a tiny one.

The additional info in the new Sensatrac front struts for the xB is a goldmine. When Vanilla needs new struts, I know what she is getting.

(I just asked Tenneco for some specs on the 5987 and the 5601 shocks, hopefully I will get something useful back from them. I'll post up whatever I get.)

The rebate has been active for almost 2 weeks now. A $50 rebate is like getting the rear shocks free.

5987 - $36
5870 - $27

i notice people are using both. is there a difference???

Huge difference.

They work the same, but the 5987 is an exact size replacement for a stock height xB.

The 5870 is a shorter shock with non-stock mounting that can be made to work on lowered xBs.

The 5987 is essentially a drop in and walk away.

The 5870 is a more difficult project for the person already familiar with modding their suspension.

Looks like the 5601s are what the book calls for the xB instead of the 5987s now.

SensaTrac shocks never were made here. Tenneco had them made in factories world-wide and sold them through Monroe, NAPA and Sears. Looks like Japan has now bumped down to the competitive level required to make them.

The 5601 is the only Sensatrack that has EVER been officially recommended for the xB Classic, the 5987 was a bootleg substitute lifted from a 2002 Echo to give a more gentle ride. Fit is 100% perfect, but it is no where near as brutally valved as the OEM shocks on the xB.

So what's is the update? 5601s or are the 5987s better? I want to get struts and shocks. Should I get monroes 72245 for the struts and echos 5870 for the back? I have some df210's springs with some 18" rims. What would you guys recommend?

I know this is coming late but when running 18" wheels the ride is still gonna be semi hard even with the Monroes. I only run my 18" wheels for short times during the summer.
