Default It's Official: Toyota announces xB, xA phase out date

I found this on autoblog (http://www.autoblog.com/page/2/) :

Toyota has announced that production of its 2006 Scion xA and xB will end in December, and that the two economy cars that kicked things off for Scion will be replaced next spring by two all-new models wearing 2008 badges. That means technically speaking Scion will have but a single car available for model year 2007, the tC coupe.

Scion's vice president Mark Templin gave no other information regarding the upcoming replacements, except their estimated time of arrival. The success of the Scion brand can be largely attributed to the splash made by the xA and xB when they hit U.S. shores in June of 2004. Since then Scion has sold 72,011 units of the xA and 139,091 units of the boxy xB.

So, still no word on what the replacements will be but the speculation as to the release time frame is over.

I am very glad I got my 2006 xB then. I would have hated to miss out on owning one brand new.

im glad I got my 06 when I did also. It blows that the xB which I have loved ever since it came out is being killed. But I guess its cool that I get to own a rare car now.

I too am glad I got mine while there were a few left at the local Scion dealer here in Danbury. I thougth Scion might be doing this because I hadn't seen any '07's while many makers already have '07's on the lot.

Usually when a model is scrubbed the value goes crashing down. In this case, hwoever, the xA and xB are true pioneering vehicles that should retain their value. I'm never gonna sell this box. It will become rarer and rarer as time goes on.

i hear from a scion manager that.......the new scion xb for 08 is done, the xa is getting redone in 09 and the tc will be redone also later on, but who knows for sure, scion is keeping it top secret, no one knows for sure, and discontinuing the xa AND xb makes no sense

If you look closely, the nose if taped on. So that means there's a change for the new nose. I really have to say I don't like a longer xB. It has less character somehow.

Default yuck

Ugh, loox like the old-model Jeep Cherokee or the even Older Pathfinder.

the xB's are innovative, the future, don't think it would be Scion-like to take a step BACKwards.

Now as for the CONCEPT Scions
Really hope they formulate, when I get tired of this box (or it hits 250k miles/konks out,,,only @ 7,400 currently)
Which they Should happen; think back just 10 years ago, d'ya ever even Imagine any vehicle like a Scion xB??? 'Nuff said.

Nose on this 'mule' looks similar to the current JDM bB, but other than that, and the fact it has 5 lug wheels, there is not much one can tell for sure other than it is longer, lower, and wider...and looks a lot more like a van without sliding doors.

I don't see anything inconsistent between the mule and that fully taped up thing.

The five lug wheels and door handles suggest Corolla parts.

At this point I don't care what they will be as long as they don't call them xB's.
