Default Kayak Tie Downs on the XB / best rack attachment

Does anyone know the best way to do this. I searched and found a few ideas. Are there any people who transport kayaks with their XB. I just got a rack for christmas and I wanted to figure out the best attachment for my kayak and where to tie it down.

I just lay mine down on the rack and then strap in down with tie downs that are attached to the bars on my rack. (kind of Getto but it works) I have been thinking of getting the craddels to make it easier but my way works for now so we will see.

Default kayak tie downs

What kind of rack did you get? If it's a Yakima rack, go to www.yakima.com and look in the "water" section for the kayak accessories. They have a ton of different options. If you didn't get a yakima rack, just go to the companies wesite. They all make stuff to haul kayaks.

Good luck

I got the Yakim Rack. I am not sure which of the attachments would be the strongest. I heard people tie the boat down to the rack but it makes me kind of nervous. Basically I want to get the strongest attachment out there since the tie down might be a problem.

Back when I was boating, I used the Landshark Saddles. They were easy to use and bomb proof. Never had my boat move a bit and I traveled from Kansas to Colorado on many trips. Cheap too.

The Thule works well. We put them on the Yakima rack on the xA this summer, but alas, the kayak never saw the light of day this year.

That is the kayak on the old bubble.....I still wanna see it on the xA.

For the xB, I'm considering the one that slides down the side of the car, Hullevator, I think.....

Thanks for the advice. Did you tie the kayak down to the car or to the rack itself? I am nervous because I kept reading that tie down anchor points were not easily found on the xb.

you could use the front and rear tow hook's . just get a spare towhook from a recycler/junkyard and then there's your tiedowns even far enough away from teh bumpers to probably protect your paint from rubbing against the ropes.

What kind of boat are you hauling? Whitewater or sea? When I was into whitewater, I just strapped my boat to the rack. Didn't need any straps for the front or back.
