Default Lengthy Trip with xB

Wife and I would like to take a lengthy trip from FL to Minnesota in July----I haven't driven the xB more than 350 miles r/t and was wondering if you think it would be adviseable for a 3,000 mile r/t???

it should be fine. if youre driving a manual though, id recommend keeping it at 65 or 70, whatever the speed limit is. i drove down to florida, about 1000 miles each way, the engine works real hard when you get past 75.

but youll be okay, just take all the normal precautions before taking trips, check fluids, yada yada.

Default Driving long distances in XB

Hi all,
In April I drove my 04 XB from the Bay Area CA to Lubbock TX then returned 4 days later. It drove great, I was averaging between 80-85 mph, with the A/C going and packed up I averaged 31 mpg. I also have after market short ram intake, header and exhaust ... which helps... the hamsters can only run so fast! We averaged 600 miles per day... a long day of driving ... I don't suggest it unless you have someone to share the driving with you... it took my right leg about a week to feel normal.

i drove mine from seattle to los angeles and back. couldve used a little more power going through the mountains and some more sound deadening material but otherwise it was fine.

I just recently drove mine from Chicago to Las Vegas for a move. Not bad at all actually, except for Utah (SLC) to Las Vegas. Basically it was windy as hell, and the combo of that, the mountains, and my xB loaded down with stuff made for a exhausting trip. It was just one of those times you wish for much more power!!!!

We drove ours from FL to CA taking the 10 the whole way. Went from Jax, FL to Baton Rouge, LA and stayed overnight with family. The next day we left there and drove the rest of the way. Pretty boring, but even with all the crap in the car we averaged 30mpg.

That was the problem... NO Cruise Control! My knee didn't feel right for over a week.
600 miles in one day without CC is pushing the envelope-

1, Non-mechanically inclined individual.
2, Monroe 5987 shocks at O'Reilly Auto, 32.87 each.
3, Bumpy railroad tracks on the way to work
6, Minutes for each side to replace stock shocks.
1, Lifetime of smoother ride.

It really made a difference for something so simple.

Why wouldn't you? I've been on multi-thousand mile trips on various motorcycles with very little discomfort and an xB is a MUCH more luxurious place to be, with the cage around you and heating or cooling on demand to keep things exactly how you like them as you travel . . . . So . . . why wouldn't you??

You Have A Good Point---and I as well have cris-crossed this country, on motor-cycle, driving trucks, driving tour buses, and down the Mississippi from Wisconsin to Florida-------I guess I was actually thinking more about the practicality of it all-----we are in our late 60's now and look forward to this "jaunt" in our xB. I just like to hear of other people's experiences and I then can relate to them. Thanks

Bring earplugs if you plan on traveling over 60 M.P.H. for that many miles. You will thank me later . . .

I took mine on a long trip just over a year ago....

Leg 1: Lombard, IL to Latrobe, PA ~ 515 miles
Leg 2: Latrobe, PA to Columbia, SC ~ 530 miles
Leg 3: Columbia, SC to Lombard, IL ~ 815 miles

Did each leg in a day (trip home sucked) cause I did it all in one sitting... that was 13+ hours for the trip home.. lol (this was over the course of a week... we didn't just take 3 days to do it.. we stayed in each spot to visit friends for a few days).

You can go to your nearest Sam's Club and get a set of sheepskin covers for the seats, is what you can do. I've been using them for years on my motorcycle seats, and since getting 'em on m xB I've found that they're just about as effective for car seats.

Three weeks ago I went on a trip of 550 miles each way with two passengers, clothing etc. for five days with manual transmission and cruise control. No problem, and I'm 75 years old. It's not a Porsche 911 but it is adequate and with gas at $3.05 around here, I love it. And I have had a Porsche 911, and an XJ12L Jag and I love my box.
