Default Need quick help with a purchase

I'm looking at a used (2006) xB. It's priced the same as a new one, so I'm trying to see what features this has compared to a base model. I can tell it has the iPod connector and Sirius (which does work). The upgrade options ona new one list stuff like a "Door speaker upgrade, amp and subwoofer for $798" and a door speaker & amp upgrade for $379 but I donn't know how to tell if it has a speaker upgrade. It doesn't have the Bazooka subwoofer in the back, so I assume it does't have the $798 upgrade, but how do I tell about the door speakers?

And what about the Security upgrade? The used car salesman said he wasn't sure, but since the wireless opener had a panic button on the back it must have an alarm. From what I've read here (although not specifically for an xB) the security system should beep, flash lights, etc. It didn't but I suppose it might not be set. How can I tell about this?

Is there any way to punch in the VIN someplace that can tell how it came from the dealer originally???

any help appreciated!!!

no such thing as speaker and amp upgrade from Scion...only the Bazooka. No alarm just keyless entry.....unless there is a super deal I would buy a new one

(2nd try at this reply.... don't know where the 1st one went)

I just went to scion.com, picked the build my model option and under sound got these choices (so there IS this upgrade):

Pioneer AM/FM/CD Deck $0

Pioneer AM/FM/CD + iPod Capability $260

Bazooka Tube Subwoofer $429

Door Speaker Upgrade & Amp $379

Door Speaker Upgrade, Amp & Subwoofer $798

DVD Entertainment System $1,699

Dual Headrest DVD System $1,995

Satellite Radio

AM/FM/MP3 CD Player w/Satellite Radio $449

AM/FM/CD MP3 Player w/Satellite Radio Ipod Capability $709

Sirius Satellite Radio $449
No alarm just keyless entry.....unless there is a super deal I would buy a new one
The $469 Scion Security seems to be an alarm. It talks about auto re-arming, flashing lights, interior light activation, etc.

http://scion.com/showroom/xb/accessories/
off Scion .com..only a 6 disc
the other options sound like Rs3.0 stuff I never saw them on a car before though..I did not see it in my region when I went to build....I would be skeptical of that being actually in the car
as clarification all keyless entry which is standard has the remote with panic most people mistake this for an alarm when buying used.

as I said on scion-tech.com it's either a regional thing or you are looking at parts of the rs3.0 option

just used a montgomery zipcode and sure enough u can get speaker upgrades . but when i used zipcode 36101 it made me pick a certain dealer. it may be a dealer option only. seeing as how when i'd click on the audiop options there was no picture for said items.

My zip is 36111 which makes me pick the only one dealer.... It seems strange to me that options would be different in different parts of the country!! The impression I got from the dealer is that they get notification of anticipated deliveries and didn't really make completely customized models.... but today is the first day I've looked at Scions (and I'm certainly glad I did) so I'm still new to all of this.

My original problem is still how to tell if a used car that's in the same price range as a new one is worth it because of the extras it has....

First, I did post this question several places since I had no idea there were so many Scion forums!!!

And second, what is the rs3.0?

rs3.0 is the limeish green xb. it's a limited edition which comes with headrest screens , a dvd player , and alpine speakers.

hell in alabama you can get two tone leather from the scion site yet you can't get all the wheel covers , and you can't get any performance parts.

but you can get 17's , and 18's.

very , very odd.

Unless it has many mods that you want why buy used. Get new and add all the options you want. Just don't get the options through the dealer (way too much mark-up). Everything offered as an option on a Scion can be found on line. Let the savings begin.

It appears that the only options it has are the radio with Sirius. That makes it (as I just priced it at scion.com) to be $16.6 and the used one with 4,000 miles is $1300 cheaper.

Hard to decide how much 4,000 miles is worth!! If I just wanted the iPod connection with the upgraded stereo, where can that be purchased online? I'd assume that's a more involved installation.....

Main thing would be how it was broken in. Adult vs. 16 yr. old kid. I'd still go new if it were me. Plus you'd get a better loan rate with new.

break in is quite overrated nowadays. as long as it wasn't redlined or highway driven at constant speeds for over 500 miles it'll be fine.

I realize that. I'm just funny about that sort of thing. Buying used has always bothered me. (gotten burned a few times)
