Step on the brakes and the third brake light flashes a few times before coming on steady.

Took about 4 minutes to install, fits inside the third brake light housing, all solid state.

If it helps keep Vanilla from getting it in the tail, I'm happy.

I also plan to eventually move to an LED based third brake light which attracts even more attention due to the sharp start/stop of the illumination during the flashes.

i dont know... maybe used with LED lighting i would like more. it just looks awkward in my opinion.

do you think it will get any hassle from law enforcement? i mean what if everyone had that on their vehicle and everyones TBL flashed when they hit the brakes?

I'm surprised it isn't causing problems with the abs and trac. I added an LED bulb to my third eye and everytime I used the cruise it caused lights to come on in the dash. Had to remove the LED bulb to get it back to normal again.

Let me put it this way, there is nothing in my state's RCW (Revised Code of Washington) that would make it illegal, and nothing in the federal regs that I've been able to find, but that doesn't mean the federal regs don't have anything about it, only that they are massive and complex.

According to the site the unit has California DOT approval, and if it can make it in CA, it should be able to make it just about anywhere.

So long as it is only the third brake light I'm affecting, and only for a few flashes when the brakes are initially applied, to get the following driver's attention, I don't think any of our local doughnut eaters will bother me at all. :D

(If they did, I'd challenge them to cite the specific section of the RCW that prohibits what I have.)

I removed my 3rd brake light. If I survive the rear end collision from some 3 pack a day smoking, cell phone talking, completely self centered, dually driving, Jerry Springer show material, Confederate flag waving, handgun under his car seat, lover of himself s.o.b., 2 feet from my rear bumper driving too fast in the wrong lane smacktard...perhaps I can retire in style.

Well actually, Ice, if you are rear-ended and have removed the federally required TBL prior to the accident, if the idiot behind you (or his insurance company...) has a half decent lawyer, I suspect they would have little trouble convincing a judge or jury of Comparative Negligence and greatly reducing their liability for damages...
