There are plenty of threads on scionlife explaining that some of the headers get to hot and melt the wiring in the engine compartment near the headers.

The weapon r says it eliminates the catt converter , that doesn't mean you take off your catt does it ? Also does anyone know if you de-install the heat shield after headers on or if there are nicer looking ones after market ?

The heat shield will only fit the stock header. You could wrap the new header if you are worried about the heat.

The 1st gen xB doesn't have a cat in the header, swapping the header does NOT eliminate the cat. There is no need to swap an O2 sensor either. It's very straight forward.

ANY header could potentially melt the shifter cable on a manual. ANY header without a heat shield. Ceramic coat will help prevent that too. Several ebay headers are ceramic too.

The Weapon-R, Greddy and Strup are stainless and pose exactly the same risk as an ebay header.

An ebay header will not cause any engine damage at all, unless you screw up the install.

The benefits to name brand are cleaner welds, better ceramic coat and a cleaner collector, that's pretty much it. For the price, they're pretty decent pieces.

For the Weapon-R pic requests. This is my 4-2-1 header I've been running for almost a year. The wrap is still clean. The only part if you wrap, you have to do a burn in period. Just turn the car on and let it run for about 20-30mins before you drive it. The smell will last for about a day or two, then you should be set. Just for those reading this thread, it doesn't matter which one you get... just do it right.

Wrapped... for cabletasticness.

Doesn't matter who you get the header from, wrap it if you can't put the heat shield back on. If you don't, make sure you protect the shift cables in some sort of heat protection. Buying the name you get super clean welds and a superior collector. The only cons I've read regarding the ebay header, the ceramic coating eventually starts to flake off, that's about it.

Seriously? Now I have to clean this up. First off, let me start by saying any sort of blanket statement like 'ebay headers will ruin your car' is going to illicit a negative response, especially if there isn't anything to back it up.

That being said, the back and forth bickering going on is beyond me. Both of you guys need to drop it.

This WILL be the last word on the matter.

Couple of additional points:
another benefit of the name brand headers is the bolt holes are typically pre-tapped.
The few times I have wrapped a header with thermo-tec they have damaged the headers so be careful
some people can't afford the high dollar items and companies make a lot of money selling knock-off's especially wheel companies

And for what it's worth, I got my Weapon-R header when it was still a Monster Motorworks header and it has heat shield brackets. I never used em, but it has em.

So then the consensus on the heat shield is ?.?.? I have an automatic trans . I dont realy like how the wrap looks , is it ok if I do like burstaneurysm and go w/no heat shield . (assuming it is installed right) no half "____"ing on my ob1 !

No shield on my ebay header and after 2 years there is zero heat damage to anything near the header on my auto. The ceramic coating still looks new too.

Sorry cee-dub before i was in the scion scene ive had friends who have had nothing but issues with weapon-r and there products. When i went to help them install it or take the part of the quality was just bad. This was 6 years ago so maybe the company has changed but when you have one bad experience you tend to say away from that. There will allways be a on going debate on what anyone likes.I like brand A he likes brand B but other guy likes brand C.It's all in what we see and like and feel is a qaulity product by our standards.Maybe one day ill see a product the company makes and give it another try.

It is an exhaust... Get the cheaper ebay one, because in the end they are both just metal tubes that expel gasses. Actually the absolute best performance header available (for the tC at least) is the Raceland, since it has the largest diameter pipes and softest bends.

It's like how people will buy a Mac even though it has MUCH lower technology and costs an EXTREME amount; they think it is higher quality. When in reality a Mac is in the middle of the pack and has the lowest number of product moved. Toshiba however people see as a bargain brand but it has the highest quality and longest life expectancy, and sells nearly double that of the Mac. If you are wondering HP has the worst quality followed by Sony, but they sell almost 9x as many units as Toshiba and Mac combined.

I would be careful using any wrap also it holds moisture and will rust the header out in no time... I owned an exhaust shop for many years so this isn't being said without tons of previous experience...
