P0012 petition
I would like everyone who has experienced code P0012 to sign this list. I believe that this problem is so common that Toyota should, in the very least, issue a TSB.
PLEASE -ONLY REPLY IF YOUR VVT-I HAS PRESENTED CODE P0012.
Do not ask about it, there are several threads.

anything in before that vin is accepted for that tsb say your vin is jtlkt3#4#40978922 then it would.
if you look at the tsb where the 4#64078922 if your vin is lower then that number (from the 64078922) then it applies but only if it is an 05-06

x-bseries is right about this and there are some for try to get things for free but they do not apply. in some cases when you try to fix some concerns found in a tsb in can cause more problems then you may realize

yeah it's worse for a tech but say you bring it in still in warranty it's not bad yet they dont do it . then say your at like 61k and it goes bad. now you (the consumer) gets raped so as to fix it.

This should not happen, but it does. One that is very simple to see/understand is the following TSB which should be a no question, no challenge changeout if the customer reports the problem, but being refused because the tech couldn't duplicate the problem. *sigh*
AX002-06 BASE GRADE AUDIO HEAD UNIT CHANGES CHANNELS BY ITSELF (REVISED)
6/2/2006 - 2006 model year Scion tC, xA, and xB vehicles.

Scion customers may experience a condition where the audio head unit (AM/FM tuner) changes channels by itself. Exchange units from the supplier have been modified to correct the concern.
"No additional diagnosis is necessary for the described condition. Remove and replace
the customer’s existing audio head unit with an exchange unit from the supplier. Refer to
the Technical Information System (TIS), 2006 model year Scion tC, xA, or xB:
Accessories: Installation Instructions: (appropriate section for P/N 08600–21800)."
There are several reports here of the work being refused until an irate customer is waving the TSB in the Service Manager's face. Shouldn't happen, but does.
(And for those TSBs that are simple adjustments or parts replacement especially, folks who's vehicles are out of warranty have every right to know how to fix the problems themselves - or to have an independent repair technician do the repair per the information in the TSB.)
I will continue to provide copies of all the Scion TSBs I can access until I am forced to stop.

(One additional comment: Dealerships often cause the perception that they "overcharge" for many services themselves. We all know how "difficult" the changing of a cabin air filter is in the xB. I just got some advertising in the mail from my dealer offering to do the work at a discount... only $25 labor instead of the usual $35...)

Tomas just pointed out the obvious that I was going to say. I've been a mechanic for years, I've worked at dealerships and I can tell you that they aren't always wanting to do anything in favor of the customer.
Since purchasing 2 xb's in the past couple of months I've already got into a verbal altercation with the dealership's service director over an issue on a week old car he didn't feel was his problem, fortunately the customer service dept. told him otherwise. Having info like this makes it much easier for people to go into service departments and get the service the deserve instead of getting the runaround.

it's always good to be informed, but watch out, if you rub someone's face in it, or do the naa naa ne naa naa dance in front of them waving a piece of paper around, you might not get any help at all!
be nice, and don't get upset. they should;d help out just fine!
